I've had this 71 Vert sitting around for 7 or 8 years. I came to the conclusion a few years ago that it was a lost cause, but circumstances lately have found me with more time than money. That means fixing what's there, only replacing what is absolutely necessary, and making what I can.

So far so good. At least I have the tools to make it happen. I am going to get a lot of practice in metalforming. I should be an expert by the time I'm done.

It can only get better. I pieced together different floorpans until I had metal all the way around. Made me wish I had the $400 for new ones. I fixed up and put adjusters on a used beam. The one from this car was a gonner.

Put on a brake reservoir and filled it. Brakes work. Mounted transmission and put in a new plastic clip on the shift rod. Goes into all gears. Replacing heat adjustment cables. Repacked axles and gave good boots. Mocking up engine and mounted. Going to test its condition and then fix up all its pieces.

Backstory- This was an autostick but I never got the transmission or engine for it. Many parts of this build are off a manual coupe which was just as rusty but didn't have a title. What it did have was a working tranny and engine. So this car it being built with the best off of both cars and new bits as needed.

Hopefully I can drive the chassis around when I can get back to it in a couple of weeks.

I wired it up to start yesterday and installed a seat and steering wheel. The good news: I got it to start and run enough to back it out. The bad news is that it seems to be only running on two cylinders at the moment.

I will probably have to move on to some serious bodywork before I sort this engine out. I will likely have to rebuild it. It's pretty gummy inside. I'm not the best with engines so this will be a challenge.

I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I got something in the middle.

I am testing a second engine that may be in better shape. It has an alternator instead of a generator. Do I have to buy the external voltage regulator below that goes with the alternator or can I use the old one that goes with the generator for testing purposes. I am unable to get spark.

Some alternators have internal regulators, one below is internal. The older ones are external, not sure if the reg is the same.

They are different. Dont use the generator reg. I just learned why it is desireable to get the internally regulated alternator...ouch.
I payed less for my Bosch L82X Alt. Maybe a less expensive regulator out there...i dint know.

Removing paint and doing some body work. I wasn't able to sandblast underneath before it got cold and wet, so I'm going to work around that and blast it later.

Relief cuts to help the decklid fit better

Some front end metal work. I plan on eliminating the 71 square turn signals and put in 69 bullet turn signals that I have. Don't hate.

Making Parts. A little more time spent on the parts you see. A LOT more of this to do.
