Did 1984 GTIs have a carb? Thought I read somewhere that they were fuel injected at that point. Just bought a nice 84 without rust, and it has a carb. Thx |

All GTIs were fuel injected, hence the "I". The CIS injection is a very reliable system, I can't imagine why someone would but a carb on it. _________________ I will never lie, but sometimes the truth changes.

If it s really a GTI it would have CIS injection. Is the carb a single barrel or 2 bbl?
If it's a single, it could be a regular 1.7motor, or a regular rabbit upgraded with GTI stuff
If its a 2 BBL carb, the injection could have been pulled years ago and a weber carb kit installed |

Looking thru older posts and thought I'd update. I trusted a guy who told me it was carbureted but it's fuel injection like everybody thought. Have learned that the best mechanic is learning to do things myself and the helpful folks on the Samba are the best tutors. Thx for the help.
The car is coming along nicely. Replaced the injectors and fuel filter, struts, had headliner replaced, removed green tint from speedo lighting, steering wheel. Getting ready to swap wiper motor with faster MK3 motor, and on the lookout for red GTI seat material. |
