Pretty common accessory item. I have them on my bus, though they are relatively useless unless you're less than 5 feet tall.

Not particularly rare, they've even been repro'ed. Several different manufacturers, different shaped and stamped "pads". How about posting up a good photo of your pads? I've got a set on my '67 Bus too.

Maybe my memory is failing me but I don't remember seeing ones with VW emblems on them. Pics please!

They slide in there and mount via the normal bolt that holds the bumper.

You will probably need a slightly longer bolt than stock.
I would take a photo of the ones from my Bus but they are not installed at the moment.

Thanks EB. I'd like to see a picture of the backside of the bumper with them installed if anyone has any. I know with the bumper on the bus it would be hard to take that picture but stranger things have happened.

If they were a common accessory why don't we see more on buses? Do they cause any potential damage to bumper/bumper bracket? Or, we're they of little use as previously stated in this thread?

I have a set but need a replacement for one of the rubber pads, any pads available? Repo pads?

I have always liked these steps but IMHO I dont think that bracket is strong enough to support the weight a step needs. Do any of you guys that use them have this problem?? I weight just a bit over 200lbs and I can just see that bracket folding down when I get my big a$$ on them. Very Happy

Here is an old EMPI one on my '65 panel.

My younger kids used the step to get in and out, but they aren't really that functional for adults to use. That, and the fact that they stick out, might make them a less common accessory (i.e. something people would rather remove).

Before the repop pads were out, I used type 3 brake pedal pads for replacing the cracked original rubber on my steps. They have a VW symbol on them.

They are for the lady to step up on while you hold the door.

I guess you aren't doing that? Chivalry is dead. Smile

While we're talking bumper steps, can anyone tell me if these are steps for a VW? I got these with a bunch of stuff that was mostly VW. The letters "LIVY" are embossed into the metal.
