Hi,

I would like to purchase a new 6v battery for my 1950 split beetle. I was wondering if anyone knew the correct dimensions for the original battery?

I would like to buy the correct size so that the battery cover will fit.

I found one battery which might be close, if anyone could measure their battery for me, I would really appreciate it. The demensions for the battery I found are:

Length: 175 mm
Width: 171 mm
Height inc. terms: 215 mm

Its the 1st battery on the link provided - http://www.tayna.co.uk/Classic-Car-Batteries-6V-Hard-Rubber-Batteries-S302-1.html

Many Thanks

The battery you need is called a 19L. It is ~172 mm X 227 mm.

I found a battery which looks like the original battery, it's 172mm by 227mm and the height is 221.

Does anyone have the hight of the original battery?

Thanks

Hi, I have an old repalcement VWoA 6V battery at home in the garage. I think it's from the early/mid 60's. Would the dimensions of that be of any help to you?

The 19L (larger battery, 84 Ah) was used thru 30 September 52.
The 17L (smaller battery, 70 Ah) was used from 01 October 52 to 01 March 55.
See Progressive Refinements.

My replacement battery is 221 mm high also. It is from Autozone (local parts store). Part Number 1-6VOLT. My riveted battery cover fits snug.

Thanks for the link Bwaz but it doesn't state the height, only the length and width.

Alan, if you send me the height that would be great, thank you.

Suboval - if the height of your replacement battery is 221mm and it fit perfectly under the seat then I think I found the perfect replacement.

W = 172mm, L = 227mm, h = 221mm. http://www.tayna.co.uk/Type-501-Classic-Numax-Hard-Rubber-Battery-P3242.html

Thanks

Rob

you are looking at a bus battery i think, bug battery should be 66 Ah

Größe (L*B*H): 178 * 175 * 166 mm

the 84 Ah would be some 4 cm taller and bigger all around.

I just bought one from the battery megastore here in the UK

I took along my battery cover and it was a shade over £100. I know they do postage too. Fits the cover perfectly

I can dig out the recipt or check on the battery for a serial no if that helps

one more try. Is so that it should be 66 Ah battery for split made before oktober 1952?
Because I have read some place that VW split till oct 1952 should have 84 Ah?????? Or is my batterycover for vw bus? The cover has as I earlier mentioned the holes for the springs and clamps.(on four sides). Bt
