I used flexible paint on some sun visors and plastic hinge covers on my convertible.
It has held up very well for over a decade.
I'm not walking on it like your mats, though.
The sun visors get handled quite a bit, and don't show any wear through at all.
Looking fantastic. Can't wait to see more. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

I actually feel pretty good about the front footwell and cargo mats because I know for sure those are EPDM and this product actually chemically bonds to that instead of coating - all the other mats I am not certain about though so we'll see...
For those interested here is the product page - for 3 light coats on all mats it took 2 quarts

Not an endorsement quite yet but will let everyone know soon
Thanks for the encouraging words! _________________ '66 SO-42

Well so far so good - after a day of drying it is possible to bend/twist all the mats and see no tearing of the coating - will update after a while but it continues to look promising - also realized I had not posted any exterior shots in a while so figured I would put a few here - just about the only thing is the trim rings/hub caps but brake adjustment ongoing so left off for convenience
Should have the final shots soon once all the mats and seats are back in - I can't wait. _________________ '66 SO-42

Simply stunning! That baby in an auction (not that you'd ever sell it) would cause a feeding frenzy!
Keep up the great work. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Man, your bus looks really nice. I'm looking forward to the day when mine is where you are at today. I've enjoyed reading your thread and watching the progress. I really like the look of the double door slider on a split bus.
Could you tell me what brand the mats are that you painted? I know you mentioned the type of rubber, but wasn't sure if it was repo or an original black mat. Sorry, I am a total novice when it comes to the different materials.
I may end up painting my bus like yours sea blue/cumulus and would want the mats to be blue too if I made that choice.
Thanks,
Spitty |

@Spitty- the cargo, cab and walkthrough mats were from EIS Parts, the seat stand mats were Wolfsburg and the seat stand surrounds were from ISP West - I am sure there are other options but I am happy with these
PM anytime if you can't find something- as you probably noticed I had to buy practically everything - tried to go OG whenever practical but with a full resto I needed most things to look newish so was tough for parts like mats, washer bottle, grab handles etc.... _________________ '66 SO-42

Happy to announce that my bus is home! I picked it up last Thursday and have proceed to put nearly 200 miles on it already. It's been a while since I drove a bus on a regular basis so definitely having to get back into the swing of things but so far so good
I am really excited with the way everything turned out and have been having a great time, enough with the talk - here are some pics
Middle seat flip action shot!
Wires in tray are a small jack that I can plug my iphone into to play music - there is a small alpine amp on the front of the nose brace out of sight (sapphire is non-functioning)
Thanks so much to everyone who has helped me along the way but especially Steve, Tracie, Greg, Clara and Gibbs - I am sure we'll be speaking soon There are a few more to-do's I need to take care of on the homefront but nothing major.
I do have a bit of bad news though - the blue rubber paint does not appear to be able to handle shear forces that well (think someone planting foot and pivoting to sit down or your heel against mat while working clutch). I think ultimately I will put black mats in for all floor mats (seat stands and wrap arounds should be okay) and then if anything have a set of blue for special occasions. Really is too bad but perhaps another product will come along eventually that performs better.. _________________ '66 SO-42

Holy cow... This bus is definitely happier now. My hats off to you, sir!
BTW - this bus deserves a thread with a better described title! |

Damn!
That beauty looks like it just came home after being bought new at the dealer..
Great job turning it from that customized hack back to the original beauty it is! _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Looks great! A work of art....now, if it only had the correct governor to go along with the 30PICT 1 carburetor....it would be straight stock... |

Nice Bus, very nice job on the restoration. Any chance of you bringing it this weekend to San Antonio for the Traders Village show? Cash prize for best of show and I think you could have a good shot of winning that. Would love to see the bus in person and meet and talk with you. |

Questions welcome!
1) unfortunately not - the vin suggests a full length seat (presumably the elusive double flipper). But my understanding is that the consensus is that the seat came from SOME 67 double door because it has the diagonal support piece behind the kick panels (maybe slider maybe not-the middle seat experts can chime in here)
2) To my knowledge it is the only one known - j.pickens had been holding on to it to put in this bus and when I bought it he included it in the sale so they could stay together. I think I like the short seat better anyways so even if by some miracle I found a double flipper not sure I would shell out the cash
3) I have no idea about the armrest, wondered the same myself... My only guess was just to make getting into the back really easy? _________________ '66 SO-42

Sweet. Great work. Wouldn't blame you for putting it in a hermetically sealed bag when you're done, but I hope to see you around town.

Wow, WOW!
This is without doubt my favorite wide hatch bus.
I had visions of buying it, but you have done everything so right, you truly deserve to own it.
As to the seat question, it does appear to have had another armrest which was hacked off at some point. I think it looks just fine without it.
I think you should post a WTB ad for original blue mats. If you post pictures of your bus, you might convince a serious collector to disgorge them from their stash. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS
