So cool! I wish July wasn't my busiest month.
Jonny Rock, you've got a nice candidate for the beauty and the beast thread. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

Hey y'all! I got my album posted online:
https://plus.google.com/photos/108389533870702883054/albums/6041684291951112193
Only got to come down on Sat for a few hours during the show, but enjoyed our time there finally meeting some folks IRL.
We stayed in Springfield for the weekend since I couldn't get the Friday off and would not be there until late at night, missing the Duck Boat ride..
I thought I had read before the hotel was not pet friendly but I think that was actually wrong. Anyway, the wife, being a vegetarian, and having the dog with us meant no dinner with ya on Saturday as well
Anyway, I drove in the Thing Sat while the wife followed in the Toyota so she and the dog would have some A/C to retreat to.. Then we drove back after the awards were given out.
Good news is that my pre-show tuneup and wash seems to have remedied my mystery sucky fuel mileage.. Pro Tip: it helps to time your 009 dizzy at about 7.5BTDC instead of 0TDC.. D'oh!! I thought the"scoop" out of the pulley was 5BTDC.. not 0!!
Hottest temp we read in the car that day was 103!!
Made it home fine and we spied us a Yellow thing on I44 behind a Sprinter-based RV passing us by. I forget the owner but it was the yellow '74 with tribal-style graphics on the hamster cheek, and a hard top with a rack on it..
Good to meet everyone, and thanks for hosting! _________________ Brian W

What is the "mystery meat" in the last pic? It looks like chicken fried steak, but missing the white gravy... |

supposed to be a pork loin.
On our drive home we needed a place to stop and eat that was pet-friendly and had vegetarian options, so a friend of ours who lives near Rolla suggested "The Tater Patch".. I cut it down to bun-size and had enough leftover for a 2nd sandwich.
never. again. _________________ Brian W

I'll second that, it is one *really* nice and clean engine, even more impressive when I had the opportunity to see it and meet Mondshine last week when he was in St. Louis on his way to Branson. |

Well, actually no, I had to work my usual double shift this past Saturday, and it is looking like it will be another double - single shift this coming weekend. I'm another one of those 'computer' guys, I support financial systems and we have one of many upgrades scheduled this coming weekend.
On the upside, I was able to take this coming Friday off so that I can get back to getting the brake work completed on my Thing.
Maybe we need to have a meet-up for folks in the STL metro area, say rent a pavilion at Sylvan Springs in the early Fall ? |

(Posted: Wed Jul 23, 2014) I'll be leaving Detroit early Thursday morning, and expect to be in St. Louis Thursday afternoon. If any St. Louis people want to look me up, I'll be downtown, at the Drury Inn by the Arch. See y'all in Branson Friday afternoon.
Safe travels to all, Mondshine |

What a ride! it was about 2100 miles out and back via tow bar, the show was great, the heat was greater, but we managed and had a good time!

The Sonic pic is my fave. I'd blow that puppy up, frame and hang it if my Thing were in it. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI
