Well I said I'd be back... picked this up last week in Austin Tx. Thanks Bala!
Here we go again!
Its a 1976 Westfalia Campmobile in very original but rough condition. It has a GD 2.0l motor with complete FI system intact. Motor is locked up and has been sitting for a couple years.
Goals for this thing are to get it in good mechanical condition; fix the motor, brakes, etc. i wanna drive it! After all that i will focus on the cosmetics, replace some rust spots, new paint(garage style), new seals, etc.
i am on a tight budget as most of us are, but i will not doing any halfass repairs to it and my main goal is to preserve the originality of this bus.

Body has some bumps and bruises but nothing too bad. Rust is mostly surface with only a few small areas of rot.
Currenly cleaning out my garage to make room for her!
Super excited to be back at it! _________________ Sam

So only progress was cleaning out the mancave/boat garage. Once I con some friends into helping me push her in there, she will be in her new home and I can pull the engine. _________________ Sam

the motor may not be original, you should start checking the numbers on the fan housing/etc (not that it matters, just out of curiosity)
that's a heater control box dump tube poking out here, which was only (IIRC) stock on 78 and 79 models.
it's a great feature though, so you dump your unused heat away from the motor |

Its a GD case which I think matches the year. Also I haven't done enough research but I thought that exhaust pipe was for the BN4 heater... but again not versed... yet. _________________ Sam

oh yea, very good point. I have no idea what the heater exhaust pipe looks like, but odds are they used that design previously - trace it and see where it ends up.
btw, nice bus. I had a Marigold (chrome yellow) 76 Westfalia also, and LOVED it. It's one of the two that I let get away, which won't happen again. =) |
