Mine is 68, different bumpers. Pretty sure the rear panel below tail light is repoped. Good Luck in the search.

Man I need to start looking a little harder, all the panels I need are repoped. Well that will make it a lot easier to do.

I started messing with my cooling tins. I need to read up on it again, I'm not are if I should have the alternator in place before I fit the fan shroud? I'm not even sure what type of alternator/generator I'm going with yet. I'm also trying to gather sc40 pipe for the exhaust manifolds.

Yup. I have a little build thread at the Type 4 forum at ShopTalkForums. I've been sidetracked with a few other things so the Ghia is behind schedule.

I remember seeing the build thread on shoptalk, I havent been on there for awhile I think you just were starting it.

I have some questions for you guys, when I bought this car it was a shell with about 5 boxes of loose parts. Well Im trying to figure out what goes where, so I can shave off whats not needed.

What are these 2 holes in the dash for?

Is this light for a ghia? The car came with a mix of parts from other cars, it has VW on it.

I did see that picture, and it made me even more confused. #10 the ATF warning light hole is in my dash, my car is a manual though. The holes I asked about don't look to be drilled because they have the original orange paint in them. I'm not disagreeing with what you said, I'm just confused. I'm going to fill them in if they aren't needed.

Do you still have heat when doing the T4 conversion in any of the versions?

Looks like one of those holes would be for the aux heater which you may or may not have. I've seen a cigarette lighter in the other hole on some cars. My 74 doesn't have either but does have both holes.

The metal cover is for the fuel expansion tank in the trunk mounted along the passenger side. A metal strap holds that cover over the tank.

As was said earlier the small light is to illuminate your heater levers and it mounts next to the ash tray.

Why are you using Sch40 pipe for exhaust? You can get exhaust tubing in the size needed.

Sorry I didn't see these responses.

I'm pretty sure people use factory bus headers with the factory heater boxes. Looks like it may require some work with the heater tubes but nothing too radical.

That cover fits pretty good behind the glove box door. It fooled me lol. I didn't see anything in my boxes of parts that looked like it was for the glove box.

I'm going to use sc40 because I'm going to turbocharge it, I don't know how long regular tubing would last?

I've got some work done on my engine tins, and alternator stand. I bought a crank pulley, I just need to have it machine to bolt up to the t4. I also ordered some patch panels, they should be here tomorrow. I've been fighting my daily driver lately. I don't know why, but I decided to do my first efi conversion on my every day driver. I've finally got most of the bugs worked out of it lol.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself because I'm a long way from buying wheels but it's easier to make my car for around the wheel specs than to have to find the correct specd wheel to fit the car.

I want to run as wide of wheels as I can. I am going to do small flares, like something off of a dodge omni. 1.5-2" roughly. I haven't decided on a narrowed or stock width beam, I plan to buy whatever fits the wheels I choose. I will use discs all the way around, most likely a bolt on kit from cip or j bugs.
So what are the chances of me fitting a 15x7 under the front, and a 15x7 or 8 in the rear? Maybe like 4-4.5 back spacing in the front and 4-3.5 in the rear? I pulled the body off of the pan or I would measure it with the wheel tool.

Reason I ask is because I'd like to buy a disc brake kit if I see a good deal, and depending on the wheel I use I'll either get the Chevy 5x4.75 or the Porsche 5x130mm. Any thoughts?

I'm installing 5x130mm Porsche bolt pattern 17x7.5 ET53 rims onto my '71 Ghia with a stock beam & stock rear IRS, using new drilled drums in rear & Porsche pattern front rotors. There are clearance issues & spacers to juggle in order to get proper fitment & still clear the inner fender tub & outer fender lip. Ghia bodies also vary in clearance due to being hand-built... what works on one Ghia may not work exactly the same on another Ghia.

Looks like the wheels have a lot of back spacing, or negative offset. I'm assuming that's why you need the spacers? Are you having much trouble with the rear? Have you tried using a fender roller to get more clearance? Do you think a 7.5 is the max width you can tuck under a ghia? I didn't even consider the fact that they were hand built.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the reply!

Well I started cutting the rockers out, and it got worse and worse as I went. I ending up pulling the entire rocker panel out.

Haha I think I finally found it. I'm starting to go the other direction now. I got the drivers side undercarriage sand blaster and epoxy primed. I made my own inner rockers and some other patch panels.

I've been playing around with the 901 transmission, and I've dexided to try cable shifting with it.
