Received the headlight support panel from KF, welded it in, and pretty sure I screwed up. It protrudes past the nose about 1/4". I'm going to get a floor and use that to true up my headlight panel, rookie mistake.
So to keep momentum I thought I would weld up the passenger door. This wasn't as bad as I thought.
Decided to do the outer skin another day so I could get rusty metal treatment on the backside.

I find it amazing the availability of these replacement panels. They make something for everything. That is nice work on the door, that bottom was wasted. _________________ 1967 Single Cab |

Thats great. I am still trying to figure out if I am going to Volksfest. I had already made plans to go to an all makes show at the local college with my Dad, so I'm not sure.
If you are in DC I am only 45-60min away and can drive in anytime. I only need the part of the heater pipe thats parallel with the floor:

Front floor or cargo area floor? I have the 8ft long center piece, not the center piece under the front floor. _________________ 77 Westy - Cape Cod Sage

Under the front floor. Thanks for looking out man, I guess I will keep my feelers out. I need lots of other bits so we should sync up sometime. I'd love to check out that 59, and I go to DC from time to visit friends. _________________ Shadetree Westy

Welded up the lower door skin and I am pretty happy with the end result. Door gap is tidy along the dogleg with a few more tweaks, and not too much warpage at the seam.
I wanted to do this repair before I did the doglegs so I wouldn't lose any front end point of reference. The pink lines are areas of the doorskin that separated from the frame that I have to fabricate. Had I known Gerson was doing a full doorskin I may have done this differently, but I bought this skin like 3 months ago

Received some metal! Ok this pic is nothing compared to the hardcore barndoor guys but trust me I was excited to have a pile like this , and more on the way.
Discovered my headlight support panel was installed a bit too forward so I had to carefully remove it, so it can be installed later. I decided it would be best to install it after I do the doglegs and a-pillar so I can remove the angel.
I carefully cut away more of the nose so I had some room to do a-pillars. I will make the final cut once the outer valence is installed.
Installed the inner valence
And the driver a-pillar! Now I'm starting to have some fun.
I measured the distance from the center of the bolt holes before and after to make sure I was in the right spot.
Its a little nicer than my old a-pillar. My son asked if a metal eating monster chewed on this part. Yep, I'd say so!
Stay tuned for more riveting updates _________________ Shadetree Westy

Ken you're welcome to sit in a chair, have a beer and watch my frustration! haha. Oh and I went with a WW floor, I hear they stepped up their game. I'm on a budget. |
I have done them both and they are pretty equal.
You are doing some very nice work and 5 hrs is not slow in my opinion. Lots of moving parts and planning to get everything lined up, I applaud your efforts! _________________ JLD

If we had the metal, I bet we could knock it out over a long Saturday. I might consider trading labor for parts I need for this beast. I'm sure the stash runs deep at the SPVC.
So every week I have a ritual of pushing the single cab out of the garage and sweeping up its remains. If anyone has watched the movie "Cars" its like the Rusteaz bumper ointment car, where parts fall off when he talks.
Naturally my kids want to play in the single every time its outside haha. My son is holding a green single cab matchbox
Started on the passenger A-pillar. This one was rotten a lot higher than the driver side. I had to carefully peal back a section of the nose skin that I will re-use since my repair panel is only 250mm ( a few inches shy). The reason for pealing the nose back is so that I can do the butt joint on the a pillar.
Its only test fitted, because I have to remove it to install the door catch thingy. Kinda frustrated this part isn't already welded on from KlassicFab, but its all good I can sort it out. _________________ Shadetree Westy
