Found this clean 67 on the local craigslist about 3 weeks ago and made a deal on it last week. The bug is very rust free only showing a few pin holes in the pans and about a 2x2 inch square in the battery tray. It is a runner driver also.

The plan is to lower it with a 2" narrowed beam, adjusters and drop spindles. Get it down check all the brakes and electrical. New seat covers and head liner that I will install. Then I'm going to spray it satin white, thought that would be a bit different.

I have since pulled the chrome wheels off with adapters and the front beam. I built a 62 last year but had someone else narrow and install the adjusters.

I am working on a serious budget this time and looking to possibly build the beam my self. I wouldn't mind knowing how to narrow and install adjusters either as I prefer to try and do all the work myself. I have tried searching for builds on installing adjusters and narrowing but havent found anything solid. If anyone can point me in the direction of a good post I would appreciate it.

Here are a few pics of the bug so far.

Looks like a good clean car to start with.

Not too sure what you are referring to by mud, but the body is really pretty straight with hardly any bondo except in the drivers door. The drivers front quarter will need some massaging but nothing too crazy.

I sorted through my bug and found this what I need. I'm not looking for perfect parts but something that can be used on a daily driver. Anyone has anything in the not perfect category price let me know.

I am going to be getting my beam narrowed and some adjusters installed by a local guy for a great price. Will be sanding the primer off the body later today.
It's winter project time after all

- headlight buckets/headlights (L/R)
- turn signals (L/R)
- bumper mounts (F/R)
- windshield or one to use as template
- outside door handles (L/R)
- tail light inner guts (L side)
- tail light lenses (L/R)
- Running Boards
- interior panels for templates only
- Hood side of the latch
- drivers side mirror
- ignition switch
- dome light
- headlight switch
- window cranks
- horn ring
- turn signal switch (mine is there but the arm is broken)
- dash chrome

had some time this weekend to sand on the bug finally. Got the entire body sanded down for some primer and a bit of body filler to fix some old body damage i uncovered. hopefully will have this thing ready for paint sometime in January. It looks like the og paint is showing throught, zenith blue. I'll also have the beam and rear lowered at that point too.

So I have been working hard on the 67 lately. I had my beam narrowed 2" and now the beam won't fit back in with the steering box on. The steering
Box is hitting the body mount that the top of the beam mounts to. Does the brace that has the stop point for the pitman arm need to come off so I can get the steering box on with the beam in or? This is my first ball joint beam. I've had a narrowed 2" link pin beam on my 62 and I didn't have to adjust the placement of the steering box when I put the beam back in.

Been a while for an update. I finished all the body work I was going to do to this bug. Got it in primer and sprayed semi gloss white yesterday. Next step put it back together.

Hey, if your still looking for an ign. switch and horn ring, I have both. I have a really nice unrestored complete wheel off a '67. No cracks or chunks out of it, just very light crazing you have to really look hard to see. Nice work on the car!

Thanks but I found most of my parts needed. Thanks for the props too.

So I purchased new narrowed tie rods from CIP as my originals decided to self destruct as I took them apart from rust. Well they arrived and only had one nut on either end to lock the tie rod from further adjustment. This doesn't make sense as I thought it is a jam nut type deal to lock the tie rod after adjusting.

Has anyone else used the CIP narrowed tie rods?

So I am trying to get my brake lights, turn signals and high beams to work. I have low beams and tail lights but the others aren't working. I've traced all wiring and it all seems to be intact and connected correctly. I've also replaced the brake pressure switches and bulbs to make sure they weren't bad. Still no brake lights, turn signals and high beams.

Anyone have any clue? This is one of the last few things I need to finish to drive the bug.

Can you explain what the 9 pin box would be? This my first 67 bug.

Also took the bug for its maiden voyage this afternoon around the block to see how it drove. It drove straight and road smooth but the trans tends to grind or shift hard when shifting to second gear when shifting at a normal rate. If I wait a few seconds between first and second it doesn't grind at all. I changed the trans hear oil today so I know that is good and full.

Does this mean second gear is on it's way out or?

the 9 pin box is a repro flasher unit that is plug and play for the one you have. I am also doing a 67 and replaced the entire harness to get mine right. go to the tech drop down at the top of the page and pull up the 67 type 1 diagram and start tracing. get a 12 volt test lt to make it simple, an ohm meter helps to verify grounds. on the brakes id verify power to the master cyl switches with ign on, do the running lts function with the low beams? also just buy the new blinker/flasher unit from WW as this could quite possibly cure your blinker probs. check the high beam relay for the brights not functioning. you gotta get familiar with the wiring diagrams! these cars are super simple so just get through the learning curve and your up and running!

Before having to spend $60 I don't have is there a way to test the 9 pin relay to see if it still works? I've got the wiring diagram and everything is hooked up correctly so I'm not worried about that. I traced everything multiple times to make sure it hooked up correct and has good contact.

Now for the trans question, anyone have any ideas?

I've got the turn signals working now. Still working on getting brake lights.

Any ideas on the trans? Could it be the synchro going out on 2nd gear?

So I put the bug up on jack stands tonight to run it through all gears and see what happens. Shifted through all gears without grinding. Anyone know why it would have been grinding before while driving but not on jack stands?

Second gear went in like butter.

I did lower the bug with drop spring plates and spindles/adjusters up front. Would that throw things off or?
