I'm running a 2" narrowed beam with adjusters up front and Atomwerks 3" drop spring plates in the rear at stock setting. The bug rides really nice with that setup.
I'll never go back to cut spring plates after driving this with drop spring plates. |

RCVWclub.org is the local vw club here in Spokane. Did you pick up the red 67 that was on craigslist here? |

So I've been trying to see why by trans grinds shifting into second here and there. I took the shifter off and the shift rod fell down. I thought the shift rod was supposed to be held up by the piece that supports it. I think this could be why my trans is grinding into second every once in a while.
Should the part that supports the shift rod be welded to the tunnel or? |

There is a bushing inside the tunnel and I think there is also a support bracket inside there too. Correct me if im wrong. |

That is the bracket I'm talking about that fell to the bottom of the tunnel after taking the shifter off. That isn't supposed to fall down after taking the shifter off right? It has been a while since I've taken a bug shifter off. I don't see any drill holes for drilling out spot welds or anything. |

yes, the bracket is spot welded to the top of the tunnel.
I had the same thing happen. I used the bolts to hold the bracket in place and then drilled a couple new holes and pop riveted it up.
Once the shifter is back in, the bolts that hold down the shifter will hold the bracket in place. the rivets are only there to keep it from falling down into the tunnel. You could also weld it again, that would be better I suppose. |
