The transmission can last a while, if you behave with it, unless its about to fail anyway. Look at Joel's build, I think he has some youtube videos describing it, he will be a great resource and is incredibly helpful. |
Yes of course, he is a very helpful guy |
Starting a build like this without befriending Joel seems like begging for trouble. He seems to have been up all the blind ends but managed to find the best way to solve the engineering problems.
I really hate seeing good beetles cut up, but for one strange reason I still find these builds interesting. Would love to have a ride in Joels car once, the fastest beetle I tried was a 1915 with IDAs, back in 1990. This is another ball game. _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image

o.o What got me started on my build was joel lol i saw his and was excited to start mine he helped me out ALOT (you should see the amount of PMS i sent him) ... it seems like a lot of cutting but i only did that so that i would have a hassle fitting in the motor .. i dint go in blindly into my build every single part has been paid attention to breaks suspension transmission rust. you have to break it down make it ugly to make it and then build it back up to make it great .. at first when i cut into my Bug it hurt you know i had that bug for years now she was always stock and and ran great when she wanted to lol ! some days she would have a fit .. i just wanted to make her more reliable so that i can drive it every day .. lol i never drove in anything other then my 1600cc dp lol if you ever come down to Miami and want a ride by all means contact me and i will show you what there capable of and most likely make your mind venture into making one for yourself . |

I do too, especially early cars but you can do it with minimal cutting.
Aside from unpicking the apron on mine the back of the car hasnt been cut except under the left bumper mount where I cut a small V out for a muffler setup which could have been avoided I was just lazy and at the front for the radiator the wheel well is cut out in one piece, a few hours welding I can have it back in and stock again. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

I definitely think the small amount of cutting is way worth it. I had no problem taking a grinder with a cutoff wheel to my luggage area Besides its just metal, it can always be replaced. _________________ I have learned so much, but yet I still don't know anything because knowing what you don't know is showing you how much you haven't learned.

Looks good. I've been on the hunt for a Suby to swap into mine. I love seeing these builds. _________________ 1968 Sedan type 1. |

BEST ADVICE is if you live in the the states go with a USDM motor don't go with a JDM one cause they seems to be a bit harder generally |
