Nice metal work. I like to use that spot for intercoolers too, have you done any testing to see if it draws in any more air? |

That looks great. I agree, nice lines. You could probably sell more than a couple of those if you wanted to. How is it mounted? _________________ Tim Potts

Thanks all...It took a few hrs of staring and trimming to get the shape right.
..I really like how it looks so far ..thinking of adding some fins at the front (giant bug/bird deflectors) just a thought
The intercooler fan sounds really awsome thru this, when parked, idling
"Yes, I have a little jet engine in there"
Only testing done so far is driving.
At freeway speeds climbing hills my temp seems to stay flat, usually I would get a 7 to 10 degree F. increase on a 30 min climb.
The other noticeable difference is a lot less dust in the engine compartment |

How are these secured? |
It has a full lenght bend on the rear vertical that slips in beside the stock louvers, then a single sheetmetal screw top and bottom, mostly hidden by the angles...you can just see the top one in the pic.
I also left the bottom radiused corner standing clear of the body, that way it drains and any debris is blown out.
Once I get it all painted, and the front fins on, it should be barely noticable.
I originally made it a clip on, but testing showed it won't hold, It catches alot of air |

it's very nice....
I made similar air scoops using aluminum sheet, for both side, but a bit smaller and attached to the black plastic air grills, not screwed into the body....to bring in more air to the oil cooler (I don't have a turbo).
btw, I made a prototype using the plastic tubs but I didn't like it because the Mickey Mouse ears look...

Found a little time for paint, and a few improvements to the scoop:D
I removed the factory louvers , and immediatly got more air volume
[img][/img]
Added some screen, to keep out the trash/bugs/ birds made this from a piece of "gutter saver"
There are now 2 internal structures that direct the airflow down the pillar,
instead of just letting buffet around in there

have any of you measured the air flow after doing this? |

What/how/method? do you suggest?
If there is a simple tool I can put in the path, I would love to know about it.
My scoop is sealed to the intercooler w/fan, there is noticeable draw(reduced pressure) at the scoop, when idling.
At freeway speeds, where scoop volume should exceed fan draw,
measurements are done at the Scan tool in temps on the IAT
noticeable improvements are observed...usually -10F overall and rapid returns to nominal temps after coming off boost.
averaging 20F over ambient, in most driving conditions
Your requirements may be different |

easiest way would be to use an anemometer designed for measuring flow rates in ducts (which is what you have)
