I pretty much ran out to my ambulance to see if it had it which it does for my 52 truck does not have it the truck still has original corners it must be a bus thing only... I'm watching this form like a hawk love to learn about stuff that's right in front of your eyes that you never see

This diagonal ridge?

No, my '55 is not like this and to the best of my knowledge my Bus is not repaired.
The rest of it looks the same but there is no diagonal there - the outside does follow the body line with a folded-over seam.

If he means the straight lip across the top - yes, my Bus is like that.

You can see my Bus has some light damage in the lower left corner and near the edge of the wheel well in the upper left

This is how my march 1951 looked like. I still have this part and will copy it to the new corners.

Thanks for the comments guys.. I am happy you like this built Wink
About this detail, I copied it on my 52. I think it's actually an early detail, at least until mid 53 (20-049493 do have it).

D-train : yes, the right side gearbox mount tube is bent... maybe it fell on it while doing a service job or something else. I had the same problem on my 55 samba. Looks very common. But it's very easy to repair, especially when the bus is on the jig Wink

RPGreg2600 : Not so much OG paint left indeed, but it is worth it to give it a try.... to keep the bus personality and don't make it look like all the other barndoor panel. Idea

My guess was that this was a 53/54 change. My November 53 standard had that style but my January 54 standard (if memory serves....will have to check on that this week) does not.

Thanks for making sure that my new corner has that detail Mark. When I saw this info, I ran out to my garage to check. I should never have questioned it with Rafferty doing the work. Pleasant surprise to see it done correctly down to the smallest details!

My mistake, I knew something was different . There is no indication of corner replacements on my bus and both sides are the same. Not really even sure why there would be both style lips combined. Everett, looking closer at your 55 , it appears there is a faint line. is it just grime or is it the same lip as mine just hiding under muck?

Weird, I do see a line in my photo but nothing in real life.
I cleaned it up with some cleaner and a rag and do not see any sort of ridge there like your Bus.
My Bus is thinly undercoated there so I guess it's possible it's filled in?
I don't see anything looking from the back side either so if it's also visible there, I don't believe my bus is like that.

Looking at where the "line" is in my photo it looks further inward then where the ridge lies on your Bus.

No big update as I am still waiting for an important Gerson part, but that should arrive soon now, so then i can move one. The bus will not make it to BenPon though.... Sad

While waiting for the bulkhead panel, I did some work here and there and I will post some pictures later. But to begin, here is a great discover we did with my friend Yann while getting the front doors back to OG paint.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The bus was logo’d and this lettering indicates that it was originally owned by a brewery company called « Aktiebolaget Stockholms Bryggerier », who produced beer until 1980.
That’s an awesome discovery, which couldn’t have been done in the case of a full paint restoration where you just sand all the paint without carrying attention about the original one ! Idea

Then I've had the reg. papers who confirm the history of the bus.
The brewery bought the bus new in 1951 and sold it in 1956 to a fire equipment company. Then it's have been sold again in april 1958 and again in september 58 to the father of the guy who sold the bus to me.

Here are some documents I found about the brewery, but i will go to stockholms archives to investigate a bit more and try to find some pictures with the barndoor.
Of course i will load up the bus with correct wood crates :

We can still find some nowadays...

Maybe the barndoor was loaded up somewhere around here ?

Not that much to show, but I will post some pictures of the bus soon.

Hi Florian.

The other day I was at a flea market and found a bottle from Stockholm Breweries.
You can have the bottle if you want it.

Hi Grönis ! Thank you, that's a nice find ! I already found some (really) amazing period stuff from the brewery, but I don't have this model of bottle yet, so I'd love to have it... I'll PM you Very Happy

Otherwise, my front clip which was all beaten is now flattened and welded... almost ready to weld on the body.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I began to make the adjustments but it's far to be done.
This is by far the trickiest job I've never had to do. Very hard to make all the adjustments and door gaps OK...
Being alone to put the clip on and off doesn't make it easier, but with a little patience I will sort this out, i guess.

So it's not welded yet but at least, this view of the bus is REALLY motivating Laughing

That front panel looks great, although persoanlly I feel it's a shame the patina has gone.

What you mean with patina ? the many football size dents
or the swampy lower 20 cms of the nose ? Wink Laughing

no I think Florian is doing this stuff right. Probably was too bent to have left it that way. I think it is even great that he managed to save the original nose panel.
