I was thinking of getting a pair of deep dish smoothies, then when looking at the rims they look pretty simple to make. I have a pair of smoothie rims. Can't I just cut the couple welds out that hold center to rim ring and move it back so I have 6" from outer front lip to center piece? Then re-weld the pieces together? Make sure both rims are the same size. Then done...let me know if this is right. Thanks |

This is how I plan on doing mine. Not sure I follow exactly how you are planning to do it, kinda depends on what you have now. Radial and lateral runout are important to check and maintain to OE standards

I'll take a look at that whole links discussion later, but the first pic is exactly what I want. Thanks for the info. It may be more complex than I thought. I figured get your depth on one side then tac it then get depth on other side and tac it then weld it all and be done. I'll read into it more. |

I would think you would want a dial indicator to measure for radial and lateral run out which are how it wobbles when looking at it from the side and from the back respectively. That link shows the guys "jig" that he used to measure it, i happen to have an extra spindle or two laying around so i figured that probably what i'll end up doing on mine as well. _________________ I have a German look bug, it was built in Germany and looks like it.

zombie thread!!!
I just wanted to avoid making anther thread.
so I was flipping through different Baja wheels ideas and ran across some deep dish smoothies a guy had on Shoptalk (picture is strictly for project ideas):
where would I go about finding rims like these for 215s and 235s for front and rear respectively?[/img] |
