Lots of work, but enjoyable. Especially doing the air intake, as the engine bay is getting to be as i want it.

i now also have the new dashpod Very Happy It's a very nice thing, and will be a nice upgrade for my broken pod.
it uses the clocks from a 90's onwards vw, immob is in the clocks, a speed sender screws in via a adapter to the front diff.
all the vehicle wiring fits the pcb on the back

Nice work on that van!

I'm wondering though about your battery box - That's a regular wet cell battery, no?
Did you provide a vent line for it to off gas to the outside?

Please tell us more about this dash panel? Does this just snap-fit into any T3? Only Syncro T3? How about a Suby or TDI T3?

Man, i love this, and might be easier to go that route on my TDI that now has a MPH cluster with a CLOCK Brick wall I want a tach back!

EDIT: The SyncroSport Site has all the details I'm pondering!

Thank you for posting your restoration...and your adventures. I trundled my young family around Europe 30 years ago (courtesy of the US Army) in a '78 Westy and would do it all again..and again...and again. All the best, John in GA

Hi, it is all in and working now
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

from speaking to the seller it will work with all tdi engines (even has can bus connections on the back) subaru ej engines and standard engines.
will fit 2wd and syncro. its nice to have an accurate tacho, a the standard one is pretty vague especially after a tdi conversion. it take the rpm signal straight from the ecu.
real easy to fit, the main 14pin? dash plug pushes straight on as does the handbrake one. you then add on immob ring, vss ect. your light switches ect have to be moved, i used a golf unit that does headlights and fogs
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

hazard switch will move to the steering cowling

Thanks for sharing all that work. I loved my old 1982 vanagon, but I have to admit the 2002 with gushing heat and AC is nice in the New England climate,

I'm about to launch my three into college so our camping is about to transition from 5 to 2. We found the weekender package is perfect for " hauls 7 " around for the week, and then sleeps 5 for a long weekend.

The 7 seats certainly come in handy sometimes, normally with the wife and a girls night out...

Here's a pic of the speed sender and adapter mounted to the from diff

The air intake pipe i bought arrived as well, thankfully it measured exactly what i estimated Very Happy and fitted in lovely.

That is the engine kinda how i want it now. The oil separator has been put back in the same location as i can't work out anywhere better to fit it at the moment. And with the dash going in the mechanicals feel like that are as good as they can be.
Unfortunately the van has to go back to the paint shop, as someone threw paint stripper over my van (and the wife's car) so a fair bit of it needs spraying again

nice to see my maths backed up by a computer..
finished off fitting the switch for the courtesy light for the sliding door, angle seems odd but there were the factory holes...

Ambient air sender arrived from Titus Surprisedk

New hazard switch fitted, just need to extend the wires so the loom reaches

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And new immob coil and upper and lower cowling fitted, did a much better job of trimming around it all this time
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Have had some new keys made, unfortunately as it has the later style chip in the key they can't be cloned like my last set. So i bought some new transponder chips and used vcds to pair them to the immob.
Due to getting a soggy door card, i decided the plastic behind the cab doors needed replacing. Looked at using tape to fix the new stuff, but didn't like it. So decided to use megamat spray on glue, done the job nicely

Hopefully traced a very small loss of coolant to a join on the front to rear coolant pipes (noticed top up tank kept loosing small amounts) slight damp patch on it, so fitted another clip. Hopefully that fixes that!

And also found that i still had the sound insulation in one of the A pillar bottoms, so a bonus there. fitted some to the drivers side as that was missing

Now the insurance company have agreed repairs I've been allowed to cover up the bare metal left by the paint stripper
As you can see its damaged the 16" spats too

Holy crap! That is so evil. Evil or Very Mad I hope whoever did it suffers some instant karma.
Good luck with the repairs.
