Just keep in mind that having a vented cap does not necessarily replace the need for a vent in the tank.
The vent you have blocked is not actually the tank vent it is the fill vent designed to allow the air to get out as the fuel goes in.
The tank should have had some 5 mm vents out the other side.
With the short filler section you have you may get away with it as the filler nozzle will get almost into the tank and it can vent around it.
I would be clamping it though as otherwise if it don't vent through your cap quick enough it will pop off.
Also keep in mind what will happen if you fill up and then park on a side slope with your current setup and heat will cause the tank to piss fuel out.
When adding a tank breather I strongly suggest you have some sort of fitting that allows you to fit a hose so it can be routes away from behind your dash and keep fuel outside.
Anyway enough tank vent dribble, is it time to drive it yet ? |

Brad
Great question. I don't know but I am starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel. I'm almost ready to start running wires. And with just a few, the motor could be fired up and start testing. But I'm a little perplexed on a motor ( not quite ready for a subi yet.). I've got an old 1600 single port that's needs a quick rebuild and I'm good to go. If I want MORE power then the money thing gets in the way.
Really tempted to to just rebuild the old 1600, get it on the road to get the bugs worked out, then down the road can decide on the power house.
Between the honey do' and the have to's today, I got the bracket made for the fuse box.
Tomorrow will be the battery box. I picked up the Odyssey battery for sizing.
I realized today that I can now make any bracket, box, bend and notch tubing, or any thing else custom that comes along. Having the right tool helps.

Looking good, I like your mounts.
With the engine just build / freshen the 1600. You will always be able to sell a good 1600 VW engine as they are so common and people are always on the search.
When it comes to repower, come along to Big Bear and we can take the Baja Edition or a drive. With a stock Subaru 5 Speed and EJ 25 SOHC N/A in it you will be a converted man. |

Able to sneak out to the man cave and get a few more items tackled.
Battery Box almost done and diamond late cut out for side steps..
And no it won't be ready for big bear.
Don't even know if I can make it.

Found some FREE tires at the local shop, so thought I would put them on the rims. What a difference.
Also got my Vintage Speed shifter from Topline.

The wheels look great. I'm liking all of the fab work also. The battery box looks good. Are you planning for a battery disconnect inside the passenger compartment somewhere? I mounted my battery under the rear seat and disconnect the battery whenever I know I won't be riding for a few days. Might not be necessary, but thought I'd bring it up for thought.

I had mine parked for a couple of weeks during some rain we had last month and my battery went dead I think the speedo drained it I haven't got any other accessories so a battery cutoff would be a good idea |

Great idea. Just need to figure where to mount.
Do you use is just as a disconnect or for security.? _________________ dbsmith

I only disconnect the battery when I know it will be parked in the garage for more than a few days. The push button ignition I have has a slow draw for the alarm circuit and drains the battery if I don't. I know others who use a quick disconnect as one more security feature, and pull the key every time they stop.
I'm not sure what to think about the non-matching buckets. I still don't have rear seat covers after 2 seasons, so they would stick out like a sore thumb. And the OCD would kick in even if I had them covered. The reddish one seems so odd.

Jim
When I bought the kit I had ordered the brackets, so when I finally broke down and needed the buckets I was just able to buy them from Winnie. About 300.
Hopefully this weekend can play in the man cave. Life's been getting in the way lately.
