Thought I would show the progress of an a arm conversion I am doing for a friend. Long story short is I cut the front end off of my "mini" buggy because I wanted to make it wider and lengthen the wheelbase so gave the old clip to a friend with the idea of converting his baja. well the time has come so here is where I am. I kept the a arms for my new front end so I had to make new arms for his baja. I still have to put one more lower arm together But I'm close. I mocked up the clip just to see what I need to do to grfat it on the baja. progress should be fast and I will try to take lots of pictures.

Looks great, were did you come up with the idea?

I ask because I have thinking about this myself.

Hey Baja, Good to see an old name from MBN.

How will you tie it into the body? Does not look like frame / cage extends that far?

Ya nice to see you here also. There is tubing as far forward as the a-pillar. I will tie into that at 3 levels, floor, door bar, and up at dash level. diagonals and x's where needed.

I will be able to get some more photos tonight.

The mounting points for the arms. Tubes are closer together on others I have seen.

The mounting points are driven by the movement of the upright as it moves throughout the travel based on what your goals for that movement are, camber change, scrub, etc.

If you have the upper pivots and lower pivots in line you will have a ton of scrub.

A-arm bajas are fun, we built this one a couple years ago for a friend.

So progress hasn't been as fast as I thought. I did finish the last arm and we hacked off the front thingamajigy. There was a rust issue going on so we cut out part of the front panel which will help with access to welding the new tubes in. When I was making the upper a arm I notched the cross bar a little short and said f-it and welded it in any way. Sure enough I measured it compared to where the pivots sleeves are and put it in my solidworks model to check for interference just to find out it hits the spring. I hate cutting shit out and re-doing it. I know better and should have trusted my instincts. I am letting the kid do his own welding on the chassis as well as fit the tubes.

So we got the front clip married to the car. I fixed the upper arm and welded
some cracks on the spindles as well as adding a thicker plates where the snout welds on. We still have some more tubes to add but it is tying in real nice. Of course we had to temporarily put the arms on and set back and admire the look. It's funny how you cant help yourself from doing that through out the build process even though it is counter productive. Steering is next.
