Haha! Shit, I figured might as well take it all the way back to the dinosaur days with the turntable.

It matches taking it all the way back to the 63 year old primer on the 1951!

I think this scene makes a pretty good music video for that song Wink

Mark likes the green!

I do like the green....but I didn't think I had final say on whether it stayed or not!! I think it breaks up the grey well, and gives it the look of an early logo'd bus, more than just a solid grey box with a "G" on the side... I also think the beltline and nose was "prepped" more than other areas, so the grey isn't going to be as solid, and would stick out. So leaving the green on there masks that..

If the decision is made to remove the green later, it will be easy to do.

As long as we're quoting David Lee Roth here...

Its great that they didn't do a proper repaint and rough out the grey before the new colors went on. That is coming out with a sweetness!

Mine was also delivered in primer. I think they got the new paint as soon as they got to Sweden but man they did not do a very impressive job on mine. They just masked all the rubber and repainted it. They did not even remove headlights, rear lights and the brake light on mine. Very Happy

Thats what I have seen with several firebrigade vans. they didn't even sand or prepare the surface of the primer before spraying. often the second layer of paint comes off in huge chunks and is peeling frome every body crease, especially from the drip rails and door and window sills. Often the interior was painted with brush. Certainly no quality Management then Wink
the 51 comes out extremely nice, could look good with a white roof, if it should be too much surface rusted .
incredible to see an original paint, non reflector - right lower quarter panel... Shocked

to answer your questions-

-yes, the beltline was originally grey. It might be grey again if the owner decides to have me strip it back to grey when it's finished.

-the original primer has a gloss like paint. It looks much more like grey paint than grey primer. I'm guessing with how good VW's paint and paint adhesion was throughout the years, this bus will be fine.
