I'll have to talk to the body shop to find out what brand paint they used. Using Semi-Gloss paint is something most body shops try to talk you out of. |

In spite of another horrible winter here in Chicago, work continues, albeit slow. |

This is how we installed the bushing. This is a spare bushing support bracket, not welded into the tunnel, just to show how it fits. |

You have to imagine this happening inside the tunnel. First we positioned the bushing and the steel ring, inside the tunnel, as shown. |

Next we inserted the shift rod through the front access panel. You have to get a good look in there, and see the path. I was able to just use my hand/arm to guide it all the way to the bushing.

Fully inserted! Now to access the rod, you have to reach through the shifter hole, and the hand brake hole, to continue to move it toward the transmission. I had to use pliers until I could reach it from the rear access panel. I got caught up in hand brake guide tubes a couple of times, before I got it right. |

Here's that goofy rear attachment piece. It came apart easily, and was in good shape, so we just cleaned it up and put it back into service. |

Here's the shift rod, back in position and attached to the transmission. |

The last piece of this puzzle is the special screw that holds the transmission shift rod, to the coupler/shift rod. This is the original screw, cleaned up. Some people replace it with other fasteners. |

Here's the other end, just waiting for the stick shift assemble. |

Looks great so far! I'm looking to forward to seeing you put the stick shift back in. Getting the shift lock out plate right and the gears going smoothly seemed to be a challenge for (at least). It took quite a bit of fiddling to get everything lined back up again.

I'll do some detailed shifter pics soon. Found a near mint, original EMPI shifter kit in the car. |
