Laughing I'm finding them everywhere! Behind headlight doors, fenders, between front fenders and front doors, etc. I know that wasps and bees are attracted to bright colours, and yellow especially. You should have seen the one I liquidated under the lip of the front hood. It was about 8" long and just full of them. It was about 30 degrees out when i discovered it. I'm very lucky they were "groggy".

On your running problem, I'm wondering if it's your temp sensor. Resistance needs to vary with temp.


Lucky for me, the temps here dropped to -35C for a few weeks after I got the car home. That will kill anything insect-wise...except for the f*cking mosquito eggs which are now hatching with a vengeance.

I'm with you on the temp sensor. When I saw it didn't change from cold to hot, it convinced me to change it out. Will re-test to see what I get after that.

On a bright note, that new AFM is the tits! Runs like silk on glass...when cold. Laughing

Well, a box arrived yesterday with a bunch of goodies for the car. New foam engine seal (Dansk), I bought more Temp Sensors as they were one sale (Bosch), plastic wheel bolt caps for the sport wheels and a few other things. When it quits raining, I will make some headway. I also grabbed a coil out of my parts stash that tests as good, just in case I need to change that out.

Well, now that I know the TSII procedure issues I have are more due to me, and not much else, the rest of the process will be pretty simple once I mod my 3/8th drive socket, not try to use my 1/2" drive. Is there a source for the rubber/plastic sensor plug in the tin? Mine came apart in about 4 piece when I took it out.

I did finish the engine seal install. Much better, and I'm sure the engine will be happier and hopefully run a little cooler now that it's in. I fixed the carpeting in the passenger cabin and trunk that had come away from the body. I have a set of 195/65/15's for the car. They look a little odd on 4.5 wheels so I will move them over to the 5.5's.

While I was digging around, I did notice that some wires are disconnected. I will look at my wiring diagrams, but I think they provide power to the fan booster. The lead to the coil is removed as it another wire, of course at this point, I'm guessing it's the wire that should be on the coil.

Well, new TSII and it runs worse than ever in warm weather. Missing and running rich. I don't think I knocked off any wires when installing the foam seal. I am going to re-check that the sensor is connected properly.

Humor me here- Run a fuel pressure check hot and cold and tell me what you find. Pull the vac line off the fuel reg and tell me if you smell gas on the vacuum side.

Remember- low fuel pressure can mimic rich.

Where is the best place to check the pressure. Is there an existing T I can use on a fuel rail? I will also check for the smell of gas on the fuel pressure regulator.

Ditto.....I agree. Also once you achieve a stable idle.....if....check the stability of the fuel pressure.
Based still upon Trams point.....it took a bit of fiddling in that area of the engine compartment to get to the sensor...yes?.....its not uncommon when removing the TS-2 to create a small vacuum leak at either injector or the manifold to head joint.

The vacuum leak alone could be problematic enough. Usually at the runner to head joint its far enough from the vacuum point of the regulator to not give rich running.....normally.....but it will give intermittent lean....and yes...could give a rich reading if the vacuum leak is big enough to affect the regulator.
Also.... check the TS-2 resistance again. It would not be unheard of to get a bad one brand new. Also check resistance of the body of the TS-2 where the wrench fits....to ground on the head just to make sure there is not something in the threads creating poor ground/high resistance. Ray

I cant remember on the 412 with L-jet whether it still has metal fuel lines connecting to the ijectors or whether it had the plastic 25mm diameter small fuel plenums on each side like the superbeetle did. If it has a plastic plenum there will be a nipple with 7mm screw on the aluminum cap end of one of the plenums. Ray

Well, to achieve idle, the car would have to run, and now it doesn't even do that. It was running badly, missing and stumbling each time you hit the gas. It took a lot of cranking to get the car to start, and acted as if it was flooded (accelerator on the floor to get it to finally catch and run). Now it gives a couple of coughs and won't catch. I have to drain the oil as now there is a heavy smell of gas in it.

I am wondering while I was working on the TSII if I FUBAR'd a vacuum line or something. As all the vacuum hoses are incredibly old, I am going to replace all of them. After that, check the fuel pressure, and the pressure regulator and test the coil along with checking the points and condesor.

Oh, on a brighter note, I did win 1st in Class today at the show with the car...and no, it was not the only one. I competed against Things, Manx buggies and other vehicles in the "Special Interest" category. Seemed more "Special Needs" but hey, it's something.

There was at least one known good TS2 in either the glove box or driver's side door pocket- compare readings on that one vs. the one you installed just for fun.
