It looks like you guys had an amazing summer last year, especially camping on the beaches.
It was great to hang out with you and Gustaf at Ben pon. Here's to 2015 _________________

sure it is a bit stupid, and we gotta preserve these vans for future generations (at least for our kids). But it's even better to share all the fun memories with the kids. I drive all my vintage cars daily and also on holiday trips with the family. It is so much better than just looking at the cars standing still in the garage. It is good to hear that you are aware of the work still to come and you know you can repair any possible damage done. of course it would be really stupid to trash a car like this to the point it couldn't be repaired anymore. But that is not what you are doing I think. Let them roll ! |
no one can underestimate the importance of doing stupid stuff to make your kids laugh. having some fun memories with your kids is worth far more than any vw ever will be. |

I got Ben Pon the movie, in my mailbox yesterday, so I felt itīs time to share my trip.
My plan was to blend in the colors, replace the rear corners and replace the bottoms of the cargo doors before leaving for the Barndoor Gathering show. But I was out of town for work for four weeks, and when I came home, I just had about two weeks to fix my bus.
The day before leaving for Holland, my bus looked like this.
I worked the whole night, and at 3 am I tested to fit my JP wheels. The center hole in the front was too small, but I really wanted them on my bus this season, so I had to spend some time to fix it. After that I decided to detail my rims, I was really tired, so it was a really quick job.
It looked good in the dark
I went to bed at 4.30 for two hours sleep.
I left early the next morning to pick up my friend Gustaf and we left for a 6 hour trip to Gothenburg. Our plan was to take the ferry from Gothenburg to Germany.
I had no heating in the bus and the tempature outside and in the bus was very low.
After 6 hours we reached the ferry at the exact same time as Wolf and Burman. They had also been traveling for about 6 hours without any heating.
It was really nice to enter a warm ferry and enjoy a couple of beers...
The next day we reached Germany.
We were five aircooled cars on the ferry, and in Kiel a german guy with an oval beetle joined our trip.
11 hours later we finally reached Amersfoort.
We stayed at the NH hotel and it was one of my vw moments entering the garage of the hotel. All those rare cars in a public garage underneath a hotel.
Sadly, I just took one bad picture.
I think we were about 35 swedes living in that hotel and we all went for a couple of beers and some food in a nice restaurant in Amersfoort. It was a very nice evening.
The next morning we went to the BenPon show. It was a really cold morning but after a few hours it became like summer. It was amazing.
This really was one of my favourite shows.
There are a lot pictures of the show out there, so I just show you two.
I had a great day and night. There was a great party at some of the UK guys buses. Thanks for the beer... At 4 am Gustaf and I finally went to bed. Really stupid as we had a long trip ahead of us
At sunday we just stayed at the show for a couple of hours and at noon Lasse Mix with his -52, Markus and me and Gustaf started the long trip back.
We found a nice hotel in Harpstedt, Germany and we stayed for the night.
The owner was a old gentlemen past 70. The hotel was built in the 70's and the whole hotel was a time machine. Except for the TV
A view from the hotel room.
Two days later we finally reached home. I dropped Gustaf at his yard.
This was a very expensive trip. It costed me about 900 euro and it was about 4-5 days travel. But surely I will be there the next time again.
I also got a letter all the way from California. It contained a nice sticker.
Thanks, guys! It was very appreciated.

Hi, Ben.
Thanks!
It was actually easy to fit those rears. I had 6 inch Centerlines on the bus a couple of weeks ago. They were a bigger problem. |
