|
|
To all Samba Members in the know. How does one search our forum effectively? When I first joined Samba, I was filling out the search form as completely as I knew how and was obtaining poor results or no matches at all. It was suggested to me that I enter just one or two words to search on (ie. Wiring) then hit the enter key. This produced much better results, however, is it the most effective way to search the Samba. I know that there are many other members who would benefit greatly by any search advice you can provide.

agree, Google, you can be as descriptive as you want, just use Advanced search, and site set to TheSamba.com, then you could see some of the thread to see if that is what you want
the actual search function here works great for finding a thread in which you know most of it, but doesn't work as well trying to do problem researching, in my experience _________________ My 1975 Beetle Build Updated 8-21-12

I also have better luck using Google. Im sure I don't do it correctly on the Samba but a simple search of something specific returns hundreds of unrelated posts for me. A good tutorial would help me. _________________ 72 Beetle |

Agreed... use the "site" feature of Google. _________________ Glenn

I copied and pasted each of your replies into a Word document to refer to when searching. Thanks very much to all. There are several other members who were also interested in better searches and were told to look for this thread. I am sure they appreciate the knowledge as I do. |

When using the search box attached to a specific thread is there a way to search for a specific person? It seams that a posters name, location or even a word within there signature won't show up. I know I can find all of there posts, but some people have thousands and who wants to look though a hundred pages? Some times I just want to know if they have posted in a thread that might be 10 or more pages. I don't believe google will work for this or is there a way to search within a set of search results? _________________ Prosit!

Im a Samba search die hard.. junkie.
I prefer the way I can narrow it down to specific forums.
Insert keywords, select specific forum, Category All, select title only FIRST
See what turns up..
If nothing... or limited.. then change from title only to title and message..
Works 95% of the time..
Its irritating to see users not even bother to use the great tools to search and just start a new topic because they are simply too lazy or bothered.

Thanks for the tips, but I'm not getting the results I'm looking for. I'll just have to go back to visually looking through every page of a thread for a member. _________________ Prosit!

For short threads I open the thread and do a "Find" in my browser for the person's name. Ctrl+F, enter name, hit enter. It will jump to their username on the page that is open, if they have posted on this page.
Obviously this would suck if the thread is super long as you would have to go page by page. _________________ How to Post Photos

That's a great idea when I'm on a PC, but I have yet to figure out how to do that on my iPad. _________________ Prosit!

Ctrl+F works great on the PC, but only one page at a time. Still much quicker than visually looking.
Now, how do you do that using iPad/iPhone?
Anyone?
