Whats the Difference between these two dashes im trying to get a new dash for the cheapest amount possible. I know they say you can use the one to cover and old original cracked dash but can it be used as a total replacement?

no, the first is just a cover to lay over top of the original.
don't cheap out on this, buy the best you can as fitment is an issue with the cheaper ones and some of the other ones also
research what is the best now.

You'll need a proper replacement dash pad then like the second link, not just a quick tart up cover like the first one.

Does it have the extra holes for the padded dash to mount? I ask because if it was an unofficial import of a Non-USA model, some models still had the bare dash in 1968.

Please don't go the way of civic government (lowest bidder) when it comes to your dashpad. you'll hate yourself when your glove box won't open all the way, your radio bezel won't anchor properly, the edge curl, etc. The PO of my '71 went the MAM way- and it's horrible.

I'm debating on buying a replacement like the one mentioned but I also would like the dash smooth with no switches (relocated disccretely under the dash, no glove box, just the speedo. I'm curious on how well they are made ($250 good)...?

That still requires getting the correct vents if you do not want a lot of gap between the vent frame and dash.

The dash in my '68 was trashed. I just pulled it off and welded up the holes that where used for the mounts and once a respray was done it looked much nicer all metal and the same color as the rest of the bug. Just a looks thing that is a "to each there own" type of deal.

I want the best regardless of cost. Why is Wolfsburg, at $275 the best?

I bought this one and found fit and quality very good. My vents are shown installed wrong they are now correct. I am also painting glove box door black for a more sleek look. Only down side was there is no hole cut of for the E-Flasher knob. easy fix here is some before and after shots I will have it completed as soon as my bug gets back from having the motor and trans rebuilt

Personally I tried a cheaper version, that even claimed that it was OEM. It had a VW logo on it but it was crap. The dash from Wolfsburgwest was far superior. Better fit and finish. It looked far closer to original than any other I've seen.

The Wolfsburg West dash pad is made by West Coast Metric.

Does anyone know why WolfburgWest has a separate part number for the 71-72 supers? I emailed them and they did not reply. Crying or Very sad

73 -79 supers use a different pad.
I think the 71-72 are the same as a standard.
