We're starting our second year as a club in Bakersfield and are going to make this year better than ever with more cruises and events, maybe even some picnics and BBQ's in the mix.
2013 was our first year as we got to meet VW owners coming out of the woodwork in Bakersfield and surrounding towns. We immediately started scheduling meets and a few car shows, and even got to participate in a parade. It was a good year seeing members with newly designed club shirts and hats at events. Several members helped out others in getting they're cars back on the road as well as there was a bit of trading and selling of parts between members, that's what its all about. We finished off the year with a bang at our first Christmas party.
I have high hopes for even a better year with a few more events, especially out of town events, BBQ's and get-to-gethers. Some member are working on buying second vehicles now so things are looking good for the club as we add more cars and more people.
As usual, it costs nothing to join and we maintain a no commitment policy. All we ask for is the common respect between members and to have fun.
Heres thanking our current members for a great year and welcoming new members in 2014.

For quite some time, I have been wanting to create a navigational rally similar to the Gene Berg Rallys I use to attend back in the day. I always looked forward to those as a part of the show weekend, although I can't remember if that was a part of the Classic or Jamboree events.
Well I finally buckled down and created a flyer, put together a route, printed up forms and got some sponsors while keeping it in-house just in case the entire thing blew up in my face, I mean how upset could my club members be if it all didn't work out?
I am happy to report it went very, very well. We had 11 cars in attendance and not a single participant had ever participated in a rally before. Some people had no idea what they signed up for. After giving the initial instructions, we were off to the races. I allowed for 1 free "lifeline" call and 1 penalty call to me for assistance. I immediately started getting calls within the first few minutes. People had forgotten the same "Always turn right at a T" rule the Bergs used to completely confuse me.
I gotta say, I had the most fun driving around looking at cars driving every which way but the actual course. We had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophys to hand out, the the folks who stuck through the course were rewarded handsomely. I can't wait to do it again Here are some photos.

ATTENTION:
VW enthusiasts of Kern County....We are changing our usual meet location from Farmer Boys to Freddy's on Ming ave. in Bakersfield (read photo below for address).
This could be a one time deal or it could be the new meet location depending on how it goes. We will meet at 6pm Saturday July 26th. It's FREE to join so bring your air cooled VW out and meet the crew. We'll be discussing a whole lot of new developments for the club. See you there.

We've got a lot of cool stuff coming up soon. Going to touch on a few things we're up to for those that are in the Kern County area and have not had a chance to come out and see us yet. We just finished a small parade up in the mountain community of Frazier Park. Didn't win anything but were were a hit either way.
We are currently printing our new club shirts with 3 color screens. They look fantastic. We've been wearing the old faded club shirts with the old logos for quite a while now and we have a big event coming up so everything is coming together nicely
I'm also almost finished with our new club website. We only have about half of the members cars displayed so far. We have a calendar page and links to all of our other social media sites linked in so for those of you who don't like Facebook, this is another option to get to know us.

We have our own version of the "VW dealership takeover" with Family Motors VW on Sept. 20
I'm working with the marketing director to make this a big event. Were going to try to open it up for all air cooled VW's. This might give a chance for some new people to get to know the club members. We'll also be starting that same day with a local car show so that will be a full day with 2 events from 7am-5pm. We placed "Best participation of a club" as well as a few members wining the import class awards last year.
Lastly, we just changed up our usual gathering place to Freddy's which is a chain restaurant out of Kansas that's soon to spread across Cali. Things are going to be picking up for us as the summer heat cools down. Come like us on Facebook and if your in the area, come check out one of our club meets. signing off

| We had a great turn out and the buses stole the show with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place among the import class. We also took the club trophy for most cars in attendance. Our little group is growing. |
