For some time now I have wanted to start another Samba build thread and this is the perfect VW to kick it off. I'm super excited about the chance to do a Split Beetle with these options, I hope you all enjoy it as well

This Thread will be focused on the Metal Reconstruction and the processes to reach that goal.
The Beetle will be worked on one week at a time in a monthly rotation with other Shop Projects, I will be updating it each time it moves along. (as well as engaging as new post are made in-between)

I know there is tons Split Beetle knowledge in this forum and its my hope we can learn things from each other thru various forms of feedback.

With all that said... Here goes>>> Very Happy

Great car, great start, thanks for sharing!

If those heater channels are the original ones - you should absolutely leave it at just replacing the bottom of them. Alignment and quality will always be better by keeping them OG.

Both Woffe, Hooky's and KF makes the bottom plate for them.

Good luck - keep us posted!

Lunch Time... thought I would update

I agree with you 100% OG is Always better! If only the bottoms could have been replaced that would have been great! >>>

Im very happy that there is now a Quality and Accurate Reproduction out there that saves time, while Truly removing all the rust and bringing back structural integrity and Longevity of the repair

I put a lot of thought and energy into achieving the Highest Quality and Accurate Alignment. Check at yesterdays photos and let me know your thoughts.

Thanx for looking Very Happy

A scissor jack is a awsome tool. Smile the first car I ever built I only had a angel grinder and a flux core welder in a back yard on the dirt. Dollies were a framing hammer and the palm of my hand. Lol. Tools are a wonderful thing

Thank you... I appreciate you taking the time to look and post.

I have a bunch of rotisseries in the shop, but this is my favorite one to date. The first few I always built them with the goal to be bolted to the car. For safety, then I would weld them in four or more spots to keep them from ever coming loose. As time pasted I got more cars with less healthy metal and rotted contact points were the rotisserie was supposed to bolt to. That's when I decided to build them with the idea that it will become part of the car while the fab work is being done, that progression gave me the freedom to attach fixture supports anywhere I felt they were needed. This build is a perfect example of my new line of thinking. This also helps because I really like to demo all the rust and body damage all at one time. That seems to help me see the big picture and how all the repairs will join together. Once all the demo is complete I know just what parts that need to so sourced, and that seems to help me a lot in the grand scheme of things. Smile

Ya, that's a fantastic jig. I like the idea of bolting the heater channels to it to give a positive location to the new ones. I will definitely keep this in mind when I start on my car.

You are Guna love the freedom it gives you having Peace about it. Its allowing me not to second guess or measure measure measure each new fitment, I can confidently move onto the next task. Im often amazed how much smother it goes the next time if I "sacrifice" Time to build the fixers when I need them.

It doesn't even have to be super fancy, just accurate and sturdy is enough
This technique may not be for everyone. Im a shop that needs them repeatedly , but worth the investment for sure! Very Happy

I have two Amazing Metal Mentors I am always trying to absorbed things from
Their ways help me out tremendously and if this helps you then that's just Rad>>>
