Love the fabrication and attention to detail! I was just reading through this build and noticed the fantastic replacement "teeth" for the b pillar. Is this something that you fabricated or purchased? Any insight if fabricated?

I was lucky enough to get a few of these from the owner of the build.
I tried to get you some but there is no extras out there. Sorry man. I was hoping to get s few for myself. They are very well made.
Thanx for following the build. |
Mika makes these strips.

Wow!
Learned so much from your thread, but I doubt I will be able to apply it. But I'm going to try! Very envious!
Do you jump from spot to spot as you work or do you say, I'm finishing this area, then this? Do you ever step back and say, 'damn sooo much work to do!', what keeps you motivated? _________________ "There is only one sin; disconnection from self." |

Its nice to hear you have been learning things from this thread... Im learning things as well and its been a enjoyable experience so far , Thank You for following along
When it comes to a strategy for production, My first goal is to push/pull/hammer out crushed areas of the body to get then back into position Before i put the body into a rotisserie fixture. for example i used the porta power to push the front clip out Before i mounted the fixture.
Once the body is firmly in the fixture I decide what areas will be cut away and replaced and what areas will get metal shaping on its OG panels. By demoing all the problem areas i now have a clear and accurate look at just what needs to be done and the parts to make it happen. using that data i get as much stuff as I can coming into the shop. With that same info, now I know pretty much know everything that needs to be done with less surprises down the road. (it can take along time to source parts/panels, so doing that early on is a benefit to the build in my opinion )
The decision of were to start is based on what the cars needs and the order it was attached at the factory. (based on my interpretation) hehe
Once I start a area, I go into it with the mind set that i want to complete it as much as possible and then move along. (A pattern i know i have fallen into is i will leave some of the finish grinding and metal finish to be completed once all the surrounding ares have been addressed as well, and then do all the finish at once.)
The fact i use several rust preventive processes i do need to allow for drying time and that by its nature pushes me to "jump around" during my wait. (I like to stay bizzy lol, I coat them and then walk away and find something productive to do)
Another time that feels like im jumping around is when im welding a large area and im allowing lulls in the process to let the panel cool down. (thats when I work on something else as a filler.)
The best example I can give you on how the work flow goes and sometimes takes its own turn is the rear window section I just started doing... Even through its going well and i pleased with the fitment of the part, I was unable to get the OG windows to fit with the older/harder seals I have here in the shop. A order was put in to WW for new seals and I moved onto the body mount and body mount doubler.
Another good one is the front clip/apron im really happy with it and would say its 95% done {needing only finishing touches) however you may have noticed i left out the hood pull cable housing and the weather strip retainers for the hood seal. Here is why... I recently decided that the hood is best fitted before the strips are attached, the reason why is that the hood gets caught on them with out the seal in. and as many times as i will have it off and on its better to wait on them, (same goes for the deck lid area) so once i start hanging all the removables and metal working them, the last thing i will do is spot weld all the retainer tracks on. As for the hood pull housing I will do it at the same time I do the Hood. (using Napa brand 5/16 brake line tubing that I just used the last of doing a upgraded fuel line on a pan).
I think its safe to say, even with a well thought out plan, Jumping around is almost implied by the nature of the job (I do my best to be aware and keep it to a necessity status)
To answer the question do I step back and look at it as so much to do. Yes.. I do do that but it only seems to happen in the early stages of the job. As the build progresses my attention and attack starts building up my confidence to do what needs to be done (even if ts risky and complicated)
I feel like I was blessed with a Gift and I want to be a good steward of that gift. I want to use it to fulfill automotive dreams for not just myself but for people like the owner of this split (not only building a car but a relationship) I feel a strong conviction to honor my clients and give then 110%. I feel lifted up/encouraged all the time in my work place. The more I absorb and learn, and then apply them to My Life and My Job . Then produce things with my hands and the gifts I have been given>>> Thats All the Motivation I need.
