Just renewed my AAA membership and checked that off my road trip list. I'm getting antsy to get on the road. That warm desert air is gonna be a nice change from this bruttle winter we are having. It was -2* this morning, burrrrr.... _________________ __________

-2 degrees? And I thought riding to work in the morning at 40 degrees was cold.
It has been a relatively wet fall and winter thanks to El Nino. Should be 'warming up' by the time you get here in February.
If you need anything give me a PM. I live very close to the Gem Show sites.
Safe travels. |

Sounds like a great trip. I'd be just as excited. It's a wet mess here but great snow higher up. My busses are tucked away until it dries up a bit.
AAA is such a great deal. Saved me a few times, however I just called them to tow my Snow Trac last weekend and they declined it! ( as expected but had to try). _________________ 71 Westy 1600 DP, all stock Bus 1

Washed and filled up the bus today for the trip. We are expecting 10-15" of snow over the next two days so i will not be driving it. The desert is calling me... _________________ __________

Front range is getting 3-5" (Arkansas valley) to 12 "plus C/S-DEN . I was out driving in the slop yesterday, using the ice scrapper while driving (a special VW skill taught in advanced driving schools). You have a week to go, should be clear roads by then. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

2016 Trip
It's vacation time, woot woot!!! The bus is all loaded up and we are set to hit the road. It is wicked cold here, it hit -6* last night. Burrr...I used my Kats oil heater for a little over an hour this morning, that thing is great. Our plan is to cruse south to Gallup, NM and stop for lunch and grab some beer. Then continue south west to Show Low, AZ where we have booked a hotel for he night. Tomorrow we will finish the trip down to Tucson. The plan is to get there with enough time to go see the Super Bowl, let's go Broncos!!!
The weather in Tucson is looking great, in the upper 70s everyday we will be there. Shorts and flip-flops here I come!!!
Bye bye snow banks.

Made it to Gallup, NM. The bus is buzzing right along. Milage seems to be pretty good, 155 miles to a half of tank at 60 the whole time. Temps have been low, cause it's 30* out. Head temp is in the high 200s-low 300s and oil temp is sitting around 150*. The 85 miles from Shiprock to Gallup is usually very windy, they have signs that say "zero visibility area". Today there was no wind!!! We stopped in old town Gallup to have lunch just off Route 66.
Here's some senery pics for Grandpa Pete.

Big rock show going on I believe- bring empty plastic milk crates. If you have time -go west still lots to see in Quartzsite. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.

Thanks for sharing the great pictures, Gallup is a serious vortex of strangeness. Its the kind of place where you can be involved in a 3 way trade around a pair of boots, a barely running car and a bag of weed.....(Yes, there is a story there). Buying rocks?? I have a bunch in my backyard you can have for free. Gravel for the driveway, maybe...Safe travels! _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

williamM, we are gong to Tucson for the Gem and Mineral show. This is our 3rd year in a row going. We made it to Show Low, Az! Bus buzzed right along with no issues. Temps stayed cool, highest head temp was 340* and highest oil temp was 180*. I've been doing my best to keep it at 60 but it's hard, this engine wants to go go go. We are getting 21.5 MPG, not to bad for a fully loaded bus with a Thule box on the roof and a stroker engine. Can't wait to drive through the Salt River Canyon tomorrow morning, it's really beautiful.
Some random pics I took

I've been in Quartzsite since '02 and this has been the coldest winter so far.
Salt water canyon -- have a great story about a pair of good ol boys moving the inventory of bowling balls out of there in a box van with less than stirling door latches.--Think of that going up the back side.
Don't buy any jewelry at the rest stop at the bottom- last time thru it was all chinese fakery. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.
