I think you're right and came to a similar solution last night. I remembered that GoWesty sells new wheels and tires, so I thought to check their site to see what it was they would put on a EuroVan.
It was the Yoko Geo A/T-s at 235/60R16.
They look like a fine tire. Not quite as tall as I'd like, but I think it's the best size and tire to go with.
Thanks!

Personally, the BFGs are expensive and have a rep for being poor on ice.
I would look at the Yoko AT/S and the Nokian Rotiiva.
I've got the Rotiivas on now and so far I'm pleased. I run the Yokos on my truck and they have been solid for 50k |

I thought I would share a fitment image of a 225/70R16 Hankook Dynapro AT-M tire on my 2002 EuroVan MV Weekender.
Barely room to spare. I think I want these tires, but I need to find an economical way to widen the wheel arches.

GL springs or Carat? If GL with stock offset (ET30 or close) you are probably fine. On a Carat you would be risking rubbing. I have 205/65R16 (26.5 inch diameter) on 16x7 ET31 rims on my Carat and haven't rubbed yet. Others I've talked to have had rubbing with 27 inch and larger diameter tires. Lower offset and wider rims / tires up your risk of rubbing. _________________ 1988 GL Camper

Yeah GL... I'm trying to get an AT tire in the 65 series but don't want to rub and don't want to get the GW lift springs unless I absolutely have to... In also considering the Yokohama Geolabder ats in a 215/65/16....

I should have included My experience with my old 82 diesel (actually 2.0 gas, but who's looking). It had stock springs which are similar to the GL and I put bigger tires on that too. ET37 steel rims with 27.4 inch diameter tires, I never had rubbing. The GL springs are higher than the Carat so unless you are going really big you should be fine. The tire you mention would be 27.0 inch diameter and on GL springs you likely are fine. _________________ 1988 GL Camper

Just got some Yoko Geo's on my 2WD '89. 215/70/15 along with some TSW wheels. The difference is night and day. Feels like a completely different vehicle. Super quiet on the highway as well. Could not be happier with my purchase. '85 Westy springs front and rear. Pics to follow. |

Not all all. Had the wheels pinned as well and over dips and small water bars. |

Update on the Gremax Capturar's in 205/70R14 XL 98T.
I've put about 1000 miles on them, and so far they are performing well. Nice and quiet on the highway, good wet and dry traction with passable snow performance (but limited use in snowy conditions).
Cornering grip also seems good. |

I noticed these tires in a search and thought that they may be a affordable 14" tire. though might be a little tall.
also odd to have a white wall side.. but made in 8ply for those 1ton toyota motorhomes
would be $80ea shipped in the continental USA.

and a non-ebay source if you prefer. (they have other 195r14 tires listed as well)

I just put two Capitol 205/70 R14 XL 98T tires on my '91 Carat's factory alloys in the rear. I was at my favorite local tire / general repair store and asked them for a tire in that size rated at 97 or better. I saw that tire talked about here only after searching for info when it was recommended. After two weeks or so the tires have no issues at all. |

During a recent 850 mile trip, one of my 7 yr. old Hankooks on my Westy failed, so I was luckily able to pick up 4 Nexen SV820 185R14 C in Lincoln, Nebraska at Graham Tire. They also had Hankook RA08s, but I thought that I would try the Nexen ( they were $10 cheaper ; also, the old Hankooks had always felt a little "stiff"). After driving 600 miles on them ( some miles during rainy / windy conditions), the Nexens seem like a better ride than the old Hankooks and held to the road well. We'll see as the tires age if the ride stays the same. |

I'm trying to decide between a 215/60/16 or 215/65/16 for my '89 WhiteStar. Most of the 65 series tires have a higher load rating (98)han the 60 series tires (94). Not sure how much that matters on a tintop passenger van?
I've got a nice set of CLK alloys to put on that are 16" x 7" ET 37. I'm not planning to run spacers but would if necessary. I've already got the hardware from T3Technique.
Been looking at Michelin Defender or Continental True Contact in 215/65/16. |

I'll check back in a few thousand miles with a review. _________________ '87 Westy Weekender - daily driver on salt-free roads

Looking for good quality Syncro tires that can handle some reasonable OHV off roading - this is an example of a local camping spot access trail: https://youtu.be/kwDtq78BU0s?t=43
It's a full camper that will be on the heavy side - big bumper, kids, kayak
It's also a stock motor (for now) so didn't want to put on a monster truck tire and make it sluggish. Furthermore the Van will do 98% of its travel on road so there's that to think about as well
BFG k02's at 27.68" diameter would be the best off road choice based on my research
Could I get away with Geolander A/T-s at 205/70/15? or do I need something burlier for this type of off roading? |
