When I fitted my original 60 glass to my car I used t type rubber and trim later style, it still gapes.
I'm still restoring mine, how about sorting it correctly marking the areas where the rubbers gape and then when I'm loading it with lead put a little more inside the screen appature to compensate.
After all we are talking about what a 1/8 of n inch all round.mainly on mine it was the corners. |

Here's my guess........
The older windshields were 17 1/4" tall.
The newer ones are 17" tall.
They changed the rubber seal to be beefier between the glass edge and the body, hence the small sized glass.
It would follow if the new glass is shorter by 1/4"........ It is also more narrow by 1/4".
If you have a new 17” glass and you are using a seal for the old 17 1/4" glass........ It isn't going to fit properly.
House Of Ghia clearly illustrates this in their printed catalogue.
Sadly their web site is down but here is a photo of their illustration showing the rubber differences...........

It's being worked on at the moment...new improved one up shortly I believe. |
I hope so!
Chuck's is running screwy too! Some pages load.... Most don't i've contacted Chuck about his site.
Don't they realize how important a working web site is today? It used to be a bonus to have a site..... Today it's almost mandatory.....

"Bluedot" is working on the HoG website at the moment...best to call when the site is down. _________________ John.

Scott -- I bought the orginal windshield quite a while back and can't remember how much it was -- He turned it back in for credit and I had to kick in an extra $20 for shipping the new one -- _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

I don't think anyone has any problems with the California style of windshield. The problem arrises when you don't want the "fat gasket" look, and want to have the look of the original chrome trim. I've seen windshield for the Ghia costing as low as $127.00. I see the ads on TV all the time, has anyone tried "Safeway"? The windshield installation company? |

Please take note of the number on this windshield. This is the number that you want to order for the bigger glass: FW222. A few years back, on the advice from a good friend that had ordered one previously, I ordered one of these from a local glass shop. It fit my '67 perfectly, and left no gaps in the seal. I also used the German made "blocked" seal. _________________ Mike

I wish I'd seen this thread a month ago. Once installed with my old seal it doesn't fit well. I just received a new seal So Cal imports. I plan to try that this weekend. |

My windshield arrived today and I dashed to go get it -- it was an easy 1/8" bigger and wider and look where it was made

Spectre, I'm not sure about the "early vs. late" question, but if you look 7 posts up, it appeared to fit his car beautifully. I know the same FW222 fit perfectly on my '67. Cheers! _________________ Mike

I also have the FW222 glass in my 69 coupe with a HOG blocked corner seal and the original aluminum trim.
It took some fussing and a bit of flowable silicon to eliminate leaks, but the fit is good. Its critical that you have the trim bent EXACTLY to the contours of the window opening and glass BEFORE you install the trim into the rubber seal. I learned the hard way and had to install both the front and rear glass twice to get a good fit.

55-66.5 is a different size from 66.5-74. Sounds like late. Lame. _________________ Jason Hopper

I saw that some places stock FW222N glass which I understand is the windshield for a vert. |

Vert and coupe are the same. GTN is green tint, CL is clear and GGN is thick green stripe on top. The fw222 in the photo is the PPG and is just about 17 inches.
Hopefully the ghia retailers will hear about our need for windshields that fit and find a source . . . |

So the bottom line is this windshield your speaking of here the FW222 is not 17-1/4" high... Correct?
I need a 17-1/4" windshield _________________ Scott
