You should.

There are different ways to do it. You can buy a period correct VMW and restore that.

OR

Build like Bud Burkey. Crazy, Fast and EXPENSIVE bikes.

Actually if you play on Yahoo? Go to the group site "VWMOTORCYCLES"? A VMW just popped up for sale. It is suppose to be Delbert Needlers. One of the first guys to build a VMW so it has period correct historical significance.

NO! Altho there is a guy in Mexico who I contacted who can get a complete Dist. that will work in the motor and parts for it.

Thanks again on helping me out when I had questions!

I thought? Come on how much air can these little blades move? But when you watch the video it blows my shirt pretty darn good. I figure I will hang my lunch on the bottom of the engine when I ride so my food is nice and hot when I stop for lunch.

I plan on doing a first test ride video soon. Still sorting out some electrical switch issues and need to build some custom 90 degree plug wires.

Using a hero 3 to capture the first ride with a chest strap it picked up all the usual noises pointing forward. It really did not pick up the throaty sound of the exhaust. I will have to do a shoot with it mounted backwards on the bike for Shifts & Giggles.

Amazonas bikes made in Brazil were made to be Police and Escort bikes.
Most Amazonas that were exported from Brazil went to Europe and Asia.
These two ended up in Japan.

Now this is one long A$$ sidecar for two

Here's a less than glowing review of The Amazonas, apparently from a publication called Dream Bike in 1987.
http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Custom%20Bikes/amazonas_1600.htm

How does a 386 kg (849 lb) VW powered cycle top out at only 80 mph?
Displacement is listed as 1598 cc, but the indicated bore & stroke of 85.5 X 77 would yield 1768. 85.5 X 69 would give 1585.

Here's another bike mag from 1985 with a review. You can buy the issue for only $4.74 + $3.50 shipping.

All the reviews I have seen are pretty much thumbs down because they were reviewed in comparison with the Honda Goldwing in most cases. The reviews were correct. The thing is Heavy, Long, Slow and Flat out Awkward in every sense.

One of the things I did find interesting tho is, the police models its been reported were run up 250,000 miles with little more than engine changes and general maintenance. Making the bike so reliable in such a poor country, made for virtually no repeat business.

Mykul,

If you want to see more of them and are a Yahoo groups user? The group "VWMOTORCYCLES" in Yahoo has tons of VW powered motorcycle pic's. Butterfields, Willis 4's, Webley / Vickers, Ham's, Browns and Bud Burkey bikes
