DO NOT USE the roofing flashing product on an inner roof panel ...It will fall off and ruin your headliner....this is the one place that even I won't cut a corner....use the good stuff for the roof |
Which is what please? |

it WILL NOT fall off it you use a proper adhesive, If you just stick it on it will fall off in the summer. its light enough that it will hold with a good adhesive. if you are worried about it then just test it during the middle of the summer on a very hot day before you put on your headliner. there is a lot of information on the internet about it. just do your research if you don't want to take my advice about it. _________________ 1966 Beetle

Hi
I will definately take the advice as that's why I'm here. I just thought that you mean use a decent one for the roof and a cheap one for everything else.
What thickness should I use? And what kind I adhesive? Something better than spray contact adhesive? |

I used Wolfsburgwest's Headliner install kit which includes the felt sound deadening pad. This is the best part of the kit use 3M spray adhesive
http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=113867000
I didn't use their bows kept the original ones, The felt pad supplied is good the rest of the foam in the kit I supplemented with my own |

Looks great, however I would need to find something similar that is available in the uk. Which I haven't been able to find yet.
Also would this be later before or after the electrics have been layed? |

I bought this DVD so that I could watch an install from start to finish a few times before even laying a hand on my own car

They use 1/4" carpet padding, glued on with good adhesive. I have gone so far as to glue up some and it does a good job and is not expensive. You do have carpet in the UK correct? |

I used 3M spray 77 or 90, but I don't imagine you will get that over there. Ask some of the upholstery shops what they use, you want good tack so it grabs the stuff and you don't have to hold it, and something that won't loosen when the car sits in the sun for days. |

So 1/4" carpet padding under all the headliner, roof and wheel wells etc then far mat or something similar on the floor pans (then carpet) and behind door panels. |

i bought a bulk pack of dynamat extreme after seeing an article in Volksworld magazine where they used it on their project beetle, my upholsterer who fitted the headliner didnt fit any extra padding as far as im aware, have i missed a trick there?

What's the beige coloured stuff around the window on the last photo?
How much dynamat do you think you used as how come you didn't cover you roof and wheel wells? Or is it just in progress?
Thanks alot and good luck with the project! |

i used a whole pack of it, you dont need to cover the whole area to sound proof and deaden it, you could just do it in strips, it just looks better done that way really
we ran out so the whole thing isnt covered with it, carpets will have a sound deadening kit from newton and commercial under the carpets, anod will prob do something else with the rear as i will have no back seat when my roll cage is fitted
