Cherish your friends and family…
Today, we lost one of our own. Daryl Christensen passed away this afternoon. Many of us had the chance to drive his work, meet him, and some of the lucky few even got to adventure with him.
Moderator note: In honor of Daryl, please take a moment to make a donation in his name to one or all of the following cancer research organizations:

Many of you know that Daryl Christensen of AA transmission has passed away. There will be a Life Celebration for Daryl at the Thurston County Fairgrounds on April 26. Daryl's family will be renting the facility. A few of us gathered around our digital campfires (computers) and thought it would be nice if we took up a fund to help pay for the facility rental.
To be clear the family hasn't asked for any donations for the fairground rental, we just thought it would be a good idea. There may be a follow up for another type of donation in Daryl's memory, but we have yet to work out the details.
Click here to donate to the Fairground rental fund to help celebrate Daryl's life.

EVERYONE is invited to Daryl’s Life Celebration ‘cuz that’s how he rolls. |

I couldn't say it any better. I was lucky to have enjoyed his company camping at a few events and he and his family were kind enough to open their house to us when he was working on my van.
R.I.P. Daryl.

Sad, I only knew him over the phone doing business, but from that, I can only imagine the sense of loss his family and friends are feeling. R.I.P.! _________________ '87 Syncro Weekender |

Daryl,
You were a legend in the Vanagon community, and a man about whom everyone said only the highest praise. You are and will be missed. _________________ '86 Westy, 2.5 Subaru power

I met him once, he faced even the illness that killed him with wisdom, understanding, and humor. This is a terrible loss to us all.
Emptiness reigns and sad entropy rules
The day a great workman puts down all his tools.
There's dearth and decay, with so much to repair,
The workshop goes silent with nobody there.
The knowledge and skill both go flitting away.
There's no one to do, think, to know what to say.
Where now shall we go, who else might we find
With knowledge or wisdom to match that stilled mind?
A throw-away world won't meet our demands
For good careful work by such skilled, careful hands.
His pride in his labors and thoughtful replies
You saw him, you knew him surpassingly wise.
It cannot be true, yet you know that's so.
Respect joins with anger, and fades into woe.
He's gone. I'm left dumbstruck, my mind's thread unspools.
It's sad when a great workman puts down his tools.

In sincere grief, and utmost respect--

Daryl was obviously a very good transmission specialist. But even more importantly, he was a true people person. You always felt like you were catching up with an old friend, no matter how well you knew him. And he had a very nice way of being just as interested in you and what you were doing as you were in him. The courageous and realistic - yet optimistic way he faced his battle with MM is a true inspiration.
Thank you for the friendship and wisdom, Daryl!

Count me among the many who can relate more than one story of Daryl going the extra mile to help solve a problem, never asking for or expecting extra compensation. We can probably add up all the vehicles running around with his components. Doubt if we can estimate just how many folks hold him in the highest regard and are better off for knowing him. |

This really sucks. I have known him for almost 20 years. I remember when he took over the business from Craig. Such a loss. He was a great guy and so much fun to be around. He will be sorely missed. Condolences to the family as I am sure this is not easy. |
