I never got the chance to meet him, but had AA/Daryl/Matt do a rebuild on my syncro trans early this winter. I just did the first oil change & was thinking this weekend I should call him & tell him that it was the best 'noise reduction' I've done! A true craftsman. A great man. His picture shows the face of a kind soul. I missed my chance, Rest in Peace Daryl, & Thank You.

I had a great time with Daryl at a few mogfests. Very kind and friendly guy. Certainly a pillar of the vanagon/Syncro community. I'll miss you. Best wishes to his whole family and to you all as his extended family. Rest in peace friend. Even though you lost the battle I hope you are in a more comfortable place.

Met Daryl briefly when I had my trans done in June. Seemed like a cool guy. Definitely vw nut through and through. Hang in there Matt.

A very long time friend of mine and given we're the same age, a very premature loss. All the good things people have said are true. This is not a situation where when someone passes it's good ol' what's their name. It's all quite true. His skills and karma are a tremendous loss.

I took this of the two of them talking at the Rocky Mountain Westy Fall Gathering, in the Cache le Poudre River canyon, 2011, where I had the great pleasure to meet Daryl.

Oh no, Sad I just spoke to him a couple of months back. He was very upbeat and energized. My condolences to his family and friends.

Sad to hear of this loss to his family and friends and to this community. As the father of a 14 year old daughter in her second year of cancer treatment I hate what cancer does to good people but am blessed by how it makes you appreciate life while you have it. From what I read about Daryl it sounds like he loved life and lived it to the fullest. May his familly and friends cherish their memories of times spent with him and might we learn to number our days aright and make the most of them. That's what cancer has taught me. Rest in peace Daryl. t

What a loss! My condolences to Matt and the rest of his family.

Daryl was not only a skilled and talented craftsman but a sweet, humble man - a rare and wonderful blend. He was a person who made every interaction a happy one, no matter what the circumstances.

Rest in peace, Daryl, we'll miss you.

Oh, this is so sad for his family, I didn't know him well but I did speak to Daryl a couple of times this year and most recently last month. I found out he was a Doka owner, also he helped me when I found my syncro teeth on my other Vanagon's tranny drain plug magnet after a fluid flush. He gave me some tips how to shift better till I could send my gearbox to him.
He asked me if I had the core out yet to send him and also mentioned his working more with his son. He was so very nice to talk to on the few calls we had as well as a couple of emails we exchanged. I just spoke with him recently and we had a nice talk about my new Doka project on Jan 15th.
I didn't realize he was even sick.

Everyone I spoke to always said he was the great guy and un-arguably the best re-builder of the DK transmission on the planet!

We will miss you Daryl, RIP

RIP Daryl.

We had a few really good technical conversations on the phone and many laughs among those.

A really great technically gifted and hard working person who deserved to live a lot more.

Sorry I can't get over there to give more support.

Matt and family, so sorry for your loss. Daryl (and Matt) have provided great services to me over the years allowing my wife and I to rack up countless miles of travel in our vans building ever lasting memories from our travels. Daryl, you will be missed.

So sorry to hear this. I talked to Daryl one time on the phone years ago from a thousand miles away and he was genuinely interested in helping me, he spent ample time educating me without any aim of profit.

Thank you, and rest in peace.

Life is short. Get back in the van.
