Ok, I am now on my second attempt at ordering my interior through TMI, and I seem to be having some trouble here when it comes to the door panels. I want the period correct oval smooth style panels with the one seam along the bottom so I can run the chrom trim along the top. I'm looking to get them in #17 red (tmi color) with black piping/trim/border. The first time I ordered them, I received 60s style panels with all the lines/seams through the whole panel. I returned them, I did not pay for them and got a refund. Can anybody point me in the right direction here on what these panels are called? I cannot find them on the tmi website but there are numberous pictures online of ovals with tmi interior exactly what I'm looking for. I included some pictures below for reference. Thanks guys!

Just wanted to point something out just to save you even more confusion.

These panels are for July '55 and later ovals

These are for early oval up to July '55. Spot the differences in the shape of the rear panel.

What you received are for '67 onwards. They will not fit an oval (door pull handle)

What year is your oval?

How are you trying to buy, directly online? phone in directly or through a dealer? You probably need to phone them directly as I think it is really (had been up to recently despite what they may have otherwise stated) a special order. When you get them tell them to look at their own freaking website as they are shown in blue on their panel page under 56-57 "original door panels" "full set". Here is the reference page http://www.tmiproducts.com/volkswagen/browse-by-ve...anels.html

Unfortunately, many dealers don't know that TMI makes them and I'm not sure that TMI CS does either! Good luck.,

1956-57 leatherette door panels are available from TMI, but only in a kit form. The kit includes door panels AND seat covers for $1300

I had the same issue with TMI, I ended up going with Sewfine and am very happy with the product.

I understand the year differences and only used those gallery pictures as reference to the style of the panel and the seams. I actually ended up confirming with tmi directly over the phone this morning the correct part # 19-1120 smooth 56-57 oem classic panels. No heat seams. Thank you guys for the help, I appreciate all of your feedback in this never ending quest of learning all things Volkswagen. My oval is a 56'

Good you got it. Interesting that # does NOT appear under the oem panel listing. Hopefully, this might make things easier for people in the future as it has seemed to be a real pain in the past.

This is the reason I wanted to make this thread also, to help other oval owners if they are interested in picking up the period correct door panels they can certainly do so through TMI. So that main part # 19-1120 is the style of the panel and there is two more #s for example -17 (red) and then -15w (off white piping) so the full part # would be 19-1120-17-15w

From Schwing's "Herman Moves to MD" build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/posting.php?mode=quote&p=5971114 on page 30
I've seen the panels in 'Herman" and they look very nice.

I liked the original style also, on our '54 and even though I ordered the red with black piping and only a pocket on the driver door...I received red with black piping on the seats only and not the panels. Also, got a pocket on each door. Not my favorite, but used to it now... Just won't buy from them again.

Looks like you ended up getting the 60s style panels too instead of the original smooth style with no seams

Those seat covers look like 1956-later style. 1953-55 have H pattern seams

Hi RareAir, is the blue front and rear panels style shown in the picture also correct for 1954? Do you have other pictures showing more details about the 1954 correct front and rear panels? Thanks.
