Have you tried Mike Fisher? I think he said he's got another set waiting to be cut out of car. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I sent him a PM asking if he had some. The guy doing the work said he can fab some up for around $400. So, i guess it just depends on how much used rockers will cost and how much work they need. |

The outer skins are available thru CIP. Good quality, nice and thick too. I've used them on several cars. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I saw that, but at $200 a piece for skins, thats more then it would cost to fab something up out of sheetmetal. |

If the fab work is only going to be $400 - go with that if you're confident it can be done properly.
I've done it both ways and both cost more than $400. |

I'm disassembling seats so I can paint the bases and frames. I looked at the bottom of the seat and it appears this had two tone seats. I have never seen this. Maybe it was redone at some point? The tops do not appear to be two colors. Any ideas?

Our '65 L512 Variant S had mesh gray seats, not striped cord. The sides and backs were gray leatherette. _________________ Thanks,

If the guy can do inner and outer parts like Monte had done (the inner and heater tube shield), then that's a great price. I know I've fabricated those pieces before (the inner part), and there's quite a bit of work involved to do them. I'd have him make the entire assembly up IF he can, that way the outer skin will match up with the opening of the inner channel (so you don't run into the problem Monte is having). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Alright, pans are getting done! he is almost finished. My pedal cluster is toast, big surprise, so what years will fit a 65? Any early beetle/ghia/type 3 pedal cluster? |

In general, they interchange...you might have an early Z arm assembly on a 65 but it can be changed out to the later style.
An alternative is to get your assembly rebuilt. I had mine rebuilt by Scott Stuart at PedalWerks and it turned out very nice. |

Rebuilds are fairly expensive but they correct weaknesses in the stock set up. Boxed clutch pedal, added lubrication for the clutch shaft, stiffened roller assembly, powder coated. IIRC, it was around $300.
I'm pulling my stock assembly from my 64 this weekend-if you get the Z bar conversion ($70 shipped) in the link that Mike posted, you'd be in good shape with mine.
PM me if you want it or photos of it. It works fine and nothing 'sticks'. |

The top lever is part of the Z bar conversion kit from www.unique-parts.com. You'll notice that the lever is much thicker than the one on the bottom. The bottom piece came with the rebuilt assembly. It's got an extra pin welded to the side to stiffen up the lever because they bend with too much force/age. I doubt this minor reinforcement would have issues later-it's very stiff.
The guide for the wheel will also bend on the back of the pedal. The Z bar conversion eliminates the bracket on the back of the pedal-replacing it with a Delrin wheel.
The accelerator pedal that came back with my rebuild was also stiffened and likely will not bend.
I have no plans to use the two pieces so if you want them-let me know.
Two options: Buy the Z bar conversion kit from Unique Parts for $70 or the lower budget option would be to buy the two pieces I'm not using and convert either your existing assembly or I'll sell you the one I'm taking out of the 64 and you can convert that one. The conversion is rather simple.
If you get me a photo of what you have and you decide to buy my used assembly, I'll convert it for you before I ship it to you. I want to know what you have now to make sure you get something comparable or better in return. |

That's crunchy...probably nothing left to rebuild.
I should have the parts you need to convert my assembly to a stiffened, non-Z bar set up.
Once I get it out, I'll take some photos for you. |

Pan/rocker repair progress pics. I ultimately went with ghia pans. And, they are surprisingly close to fit. He actually had to cut metal off the sides vs widening. And, just has a little adjusting of the dogleg part near the front section. The fit was much closer than the previous pictures I saw. Maybe I lucked out.
