I have access to a large-scale scanner so if I get a copy of the tracing, I can post it as a pdf. |
There's the solution thats easy on everyone. One tracing to cagey.jg. Then pdfs for everyone, which people can either print out and tape up themselves or send to their Kinkos or other print shop for a full-size print out. |

Great thread
A few years ago I started to mock up a liner for my '64 (slightly different shape to the later cars), I didn't have any dimensions to go off only photo's and a bit of guestimating!!!.
I still haven't got round to making a proper one, but material choice I was going to used a product called Foamalux here in the UK, it's mainly used in the signage industry and is fire retardant ( think firewall kit )

I agree - great thread. I found something like that Foamalux stuff here in New Zealand from a firm called Reed & Twiname. I dunked it in water overnight and it didn't absorb any. That's the route I'm going to go, using the dimensions given in this thread. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Thought I'd bump this thread to see if, perhaps, the pdf had been created. _________________ '71 Ghia cabriolet |

Thought I would bump this one more time before giving up on it. Any chance that the trace is still available? _________________ '71 Ghia cabriolet |

Hi Y'all from se Texas. I have 73 ghia and desperately need a liner but am currently unemployed so...
Has anyone used the diagram to make one? We already have SNAKES! I do NOT want one to get up in my trunk and be able to get into my car. Can that happen?? I wanna drive my baby but, well... |

I made one - diagram plus dimensions. You can find it at page 21 of my thread: Saving Emiko: My 68 Ghia Restoration in New Zealand.
Good luck. Make a cardboard template first, I would suggest.
PS - I grew up in a place were snakes were plentiful. One "urban" legend (1960's) had it that a very large black mamba wound itself around the axle of a farmer's truck and so terrified the farmer's wife and children that no one wanted to get out. Shades of Cujo (Stephen King's novel). _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Hey guys,
My ghia's trunk compartment is about to undergo a full resto, so I thought it would be appropriate to get a matching trunk liner. Since I was unable to find one locally I went with a self-made liner
Here is the result of a first measurement trial:
And here is the end product. To me it looks decent from distance...
...although a closer look reveals it is not perfect:
Apart from more accurate measurements/fitment, one improvement to consider is to sew on some plastic beading/edging around the outside edges of the liner, as discussed here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=221782
Overall I think the effort was worth, and most likely will feel even happier after fuel tank and trunk are painted new.
Hope this may be of good use for you too.
Cheers,
JP |
