Hello everyone.
I have posted a couple times but wanted to introduce myself since I think I will be posting on here more and more!
I have always liked bugs and wanted to get an old oval. Recently I found one that I couldn't pass up. I may have over paid a bit but I had to have it!
It's a 55 that has been in storage for the last 30 years. It's a matching numbers car that's rust free. It's completely original from what I can tell except the drivers door which is still a period correct ribbed door. Also the steering wheel is wrong. Maybe I can post some pics and you all can tell me anything not original you guys can spot?
It starts right up and runs fine, Of course I want to do a brake job and replace the old bias ply tires before I drive it.
I am very excited to fix it up and get it on the road. I am sort of learning as I go on this and I'm sure I will be posting a lot of questions to you experts.
I look forward to talking to everyone and learning from you all. |

Let me be the first to say welcome, you will find all the info you will ever need on this site. I have a December 54 oval and I could not have ever worked on this oval without the awesome members on this site. Louis _________________ 64 "S" notch

It looks an awful lot like my June 1955 original paint Oval (in my avatar photo), except mine is a sunroof model. Same color too. Please post photos of your interior from various angles, and all around the exterior too. A shot or two of the engine compartment will be helpful to see what has been done in there over the years to your motor.
If you want and accept constructive suggestions, folks on here will tell you what is correct and incorrect on the car. Most of us do this to be helpful, not to be critical, in an effort to guide you towards looking for the "correct" items that will make your Oval even better, more original.
The condition of what looks like the "original" upholstery on your rear seats is incredible! Hopefully your front seats are nice too. I'm guessing that your car has been re-painted at some point, as the inside color of your driver door is dark-looking. Is the steering wheel dark or perhaps an aftermarket wheel too?
Congratulations and welcome to the Oval owners club! Where roughly are you located in the world? If you feel comfortable sharing (publicly or privately) what you spent on it, we can give you an idea if you stole it, paid right or a little too high, etc. That is entirely up to you.
Happy to help...

I will post more pictures when I get home tonight. The car was painted a different color sometime in the past. The drivers side door was replaced at some point, but it is a correct ribbed door.
The front seats are not as nice as the back seats but not horrible.
I am ok with constructive criticism. Like I said, I am sorta learning as I go so any advice / tips would be great.
I'm sure some things have been changed over the years and it will be nice to have everyone there share knowledge. |

So is red leatherette with brown piping around the seats standard? Is there a difference in the year when red leatherette with white piping was used versus the brown? |

Doubt it. It looks like a May 55 or later export with bullets and snowflakes. Not all 55s had semaphores. |
true I forgot that small big detail I have a Jan 55 which was welded in the past...have a "trauma" with that |

I think they can prevent theft and provide ventilation. Place in the door window track, and then you roll up the door window. Cool and safe at the same time. _________________ 1956 Canadian Standard Horizon Blue
