Finally, Starting to get some motivation on this car. I figure i will have some questions for the experts. So here is one. Is this the original door panel for a 57 its two tone and most seem to be just red??

That looks like a '60 panel to me...
The ones in my oval are smooth,(no ribs like yours) plain red... _________________ Jan 1968 1500cc - The family project! Celebrating 30 years off the road....

Ok I wasn't seeing any 57's with those panels.
Would these be the correct seat material as this is the back seat that came in it? You can see in first pic it had red/brick colored door pillar material that was painted black at sometime.

The seat is correct. The interior panels should look like this;
Driver's side panel will have no pull handle just a pocket. |

How about the door panel being from a '65? Two-tone, and no more perimeter beading; '64 was last year for beading. '66 went to single-color panels, a single chrome strip below the handles, and no pleating around the handles. |

Fellows thanks for all the replies on the door panels. I still need those but got the body off pan and need 2 off everything else also. haha
So what is the protocol for floorpans I have always read if you can use the originals you should. The fronts of these are pretty nice but the rears are not too good. Is it ok to just do the pan halves to repair these??
New Klassic Fab heater channels on the way and Autocraft rear H apron so plenty to do. Thanks again. chad |

|
|
So I'm making lots of progress. Pan almost ready to mount body. I am planning to lower my car and had a quick question. I am thinking 2 outer splines. I didn't mark my angle when I removed so I used protractor and put back to factory specs 13 degrees +-. I then moved two outer splines up. Here is a pic does this look like others positioned at 2 outer splines?? Under no load also!

The problem with pan halves is that I'm not sure you can get the correct stampings for an Oval Bug without buying the whole piece. Later or universal pan halves (1/4 sections?) for the rear will not have the correct pattern for the battery area. If that's not a problem for you then go nuts and weld in whatever it takes to keep the spiders out. You'll probably also have to save your buttons for the floor mats and the hook for the battery hold down strap so that you can weld those back on to the new floor pan sections. Looks like you're making good progress though, keep it up! |

So I have made lots of progress on the 57. Almost all back together. All repairs blended in and buffed out. It's turning out great.
But I'm trying to get it all adjusted properly. When I go to set timing it seems to jump around some and when idling it back fires some and sputters on takeoff. Video is of exhaust backfiring at idle. What should I check first??
