Well no, you don't need all the diagrams necessarily as they illustrate more or less the same thing - how the RHD pedal cluster fits together.

If you don't have all the bits or don't feel confident to put everything together then I'd recommend seeing a professional; remember the pedal cluster is a critical part of your braking system and you don't want it to fail because a key component was missed out or wrongly assembled.

Maybe post a pic of what you have got and people will be able to help you.

Thanks, I think that would be a good idea-ill get some photos. The bits that I do have are getting sprayed at the moment but should be done next week. Hopefully by then I can get some parts that I definately don't have ordered.

Hi

i now have some photos of what parts I have, I am probably missing some more. Not sure which of those diagrams applies to my year (64)- I am guessing the second and third.

I basically would like to have all the parts for the pedal assembly, aswell as cables and whatever is needed to run to the back of the car.

Anyway here goes

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Excluding the calipers, I have the clutch and brake pedals, accelerator pedal shaft, brake pedal return spring, a pin (not sure on this one, though i think it has something to do with going through the hole in the brake pedal piece?), and four plates-pieces 22, 30, 15 and an unknown, the angled one with two little tabs and two holes.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Here I have a stop plate, accelerator hinge, push rod and another stop plate?

Then a clutch sleeve, rubber boot (for cable tube outlet??) accelerator linkage repair kit, a piece of conduit(throttle cable?) throttle cable tube kit and accelerator return spring kit

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then lastly a wing nut for clutch cable (not sure if this is needed for my year), 4 circlips and some sort of rubber boot.

I have also just ordered an accelerator pedal and number 30 on one diagram, the cover that fits over the hole in the tunnel on the passenger side. Also a clutch and throttle cable.

I know this is going to require some piecing together, but could anyone please help me to work out if this is all I need to piece this together. Also, perhaps after that, could someone try and help me to work out how to piece it together. I realise that it is an important and potentially dangerous part of the car. But we have all got to start somewhere, I have managed to get so far from an empty shell to here using manuals and this site-and unless I have to I would like to put the car together then get a mechanic to give the car a proper look over once it is nearly ready for the road. I would like to learn how to do this but need some help Smile

Thanks guys

So apart from the bottom three in red is there anything else you think I need?

And are there any other parts I need to link the cables the the back of the car?

Thanks again

PostPosted: Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:33 pm    Post subject: Stop Plate and Brake Spring Reply with quote

Does the stop plate come in different lengths?
I replaced my floor pans on my 65 vert and I have started to assemble the pedal assembly and the stop plate does not come anywhere close to the clutch pedal.
Also, the other end of the brake spring....does it go on top of the back bolt that holds the whole assembly into the tunnel ? I know the "hook" part goes to the brake pedal.

Thanks

Jon

There are various pedal stop plates depending upon application and whether you have replacement or original floor pans. WW sells various ones. Check out this link.http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111721231G

Here a photo that helped me that I found, I had a replacement pan, had to weld the hole up that was pre drilled, I drilled new hole and welded nut below to get alignment similar to the pic. I also had to grind a little on the stop so it did not drag on the brake lever. Bottom line pedals position is what the stop sets.

Do you have a diagram for where that and the accelerator hinge goes by any chance?

I did this same thing a little over a week ago, Did quite a bit of hunting for layout and photos. look at the white line in the photo, center line of the pin is approximately 6 3/8 to 6 1/2 inches from the firewall. I drew the the line, hooked up the pedal assembly and found where it cleared the brakepedal and seem to opperate the smoothest. Inside edge of bracket is about an inch from the tunnel. Should be dangerously close.

Quick question - when replacing the rod from the brake pedal into the back of the master cylinder, its there a trick?
Mine was working fine, and when I removed the pedal cluster to do some work, when I went to re-install its very stiff and wont pump. Do I need to bleed my brakes? There is essentially no give in the pedal at the moment.

Thanks!

Maybe this will help. Washers go one per end of the Z-bar.

Straight long pin with the long armed spring is the hinge pin for the pedal, the spring fits in the groove of the pedal pin to lock that pin from sliding out of the pedal. Pin goes thru the spring loop. Short end of the spring pushes against floor pan while the other long end sits against the forward side of the pedal. In essence the spring gives the groove in the pin a wedgie.
