Either way you go will be good. I would go to San Diego and then head East via the 8 if it were me, but go where your wind carries you and be safe my friend! Hope you met up with Cheryl and had a blast!

So there's electricity flowing through. Gas in it. It is turning over but doesn't stick even with my foot on the gas. Pumping does not help either. Any suggestions?
The good news is that its starting.

Ok I will change the settings.

Met up with Airs ppl they hooked me up. It only took a flathead. it was just the points, at time due to the heat sometimes the points stick.

I was told if it ever made that sound again first thing is to check the points!

Glad you got it sorted out. Also, it took me a while to find this thread, I kept looking in the bug forum.

I'll have more pictures when I get back from up north, but in the meantime, here's where we checked the timing before your desert crossing:

Here's your sweet bug on the way to Cessy's Taco Shop:

And for the techies among us, who can do the math per engine rpm and find out how many cooling fan rpms were lost due to this pulley being 4cm in diameter too small? The car had a lot of wannabe drag racing in its past, but this was the worst:

Yes, we replaced the heater pulley with the stock-sized pulley below it. Problem with the new pulley is that it didn't have any timing marks, so that picture is right before I engraved it with TDC and 30*. We actually installed it in the middle of my street blocking traffic, since my driveway is so steep and the car has to be in 4th to torque the pulley bolt. Cool

Thanks for the pics, I did not even realize you took them.

Ok I am slowly getting on it posting pics, does anyone have any suggestions for places to post pics & vid, trying to stay away from a blog but it looks like that maybe my only option.
I usually just use FB.

Hey all,

I ran into someone who owned a beetle before and he mentioned that my tires should be rotated before I got to Texas. He felt the tread and mentions something about ripples. Does anyone know what that means?

Cupping of tires is from worn shocks or struts. Simple rotation of tires will not correct the problem but just cause the other tires to start cupping as well.
