I’m seriously leaning towards shooting primer myself now. Tentative plan is to put my 10x10 EZ-Up on the patio and tarp/plastic the sides. I already have a HF purple HVLP gun and a decent compressor for shooting these smaller items. Compressor is a 5HP, 26 gallon Campbell Hausfeld- 8.6@10psi and 6.8@90psi. Nothing too crazy, but will be plenty for this. Gonna get a new air hose and water trap and looking for recommendations on a trap? Will an inline type filter at the gun be adequate or should I also run one from the tank? |

I’ve come to my own conclusion after buying and priming everything I listed, but the 2 front fenders. My conclusion is that $350 to just wipe down and prime is pretty hi if not outrageous. I’ve put 3 coats of primer on my hood, decklid, 2 rear fenders and a few misc pieces and have only used maybe a 1/3rd gallon of primer. The 1 gal kit cost $135 and by the time I finish the 2 front fenders and now both doors I will have used a little more than half. I seriously couldn’t see a shop spending more than 2-3 hours (including, staging, wiping down, mixing , spraying, etc…) on the 6 things I listed and I doubt they would apply 3 coats. So, the shop that quoted $200 or the $150 if I supplied the primer was definitely the more realistic price IMO! |
