Hi everybody I would like some quick input , I am in the early stages of writing a preliminary agenda plan to submit to the Manx club , to see if we can get another east cost Manx club sanctioned event here on the east coast with Buffalo N.Y being the host.
My idea would be a 4 day event Thursday to Sunday , and have a featured trip to Niagara Falls and some other events including a tour off the ship the SS Sullivan's . And of course have Bruce and Winnie here?
This has been an idea of mine for about a year now , so I would like to know if people would like another east coast buggy event?
So what does everybody think ?
Maybe April 2015 ?
thanks Marc |

Hey Marc
I love the idea, Especially in light of the fact that I am in Ontario, Canada and getting to most all of the official Manx events is, well, a trip and then some. As well, there are enough buggies in Ontario that it would be a potential draw.
Just some input though and maybe some more things to think about. April this far north can be very limiting at best when it comes to weather as you would be aware. (especially this year) If this were to be successful it may be better later in the spring.
OK, a little flag waving here, what about considering the possibility of having this event in Niagara Falls, Canada? If you moved the date to late June, there would be no conflicts with other Manx club events, you would have much better buggy weather and you could also potentially tie it into a most excellent VW show in Niagara Falls known as the June Jitter Bug. Not sure if you have heard of this show. This year it is June 20-22. Google John's Bug Shop for info. Also, for those south of the border the dollar goes a little farther these days. If people wanted to cruise to some cool spots a trip to Nickel Beach in Port Colborne would be in order. This is not a big beach but you can drive on it. On the other hand, if people really wanted to drive somewhere a trip to the worlds largest fresh water beach, Wasaga Beach would be a great spectacle. That would be about a 3 hour trip one way. You can't drive on it but still awesome. I live close to there. Sauble beach is farther but you can drive on parts of it. About 3-1/2 hours. Another great beach area is Grand Bend, Ontario. Not as nice a drive but about 3 to 3-1/2 hours drive.
Saying that, you would probably not have to go anywhere as Niagara on the lake is amazing that time of year as well.
This would also add a little international flavour to the Manx Club events.
Just some thoughts to consider.
Now would someone please melt the snow, I want to go Buggyin'.
Cheers

How about a 'round the lake trip, starting or ending with one day in Niagara Falls, say... the Jitterbug weekend. (either Lake, Ontario or Erie).
Lots of great stops on both sides of the border.
I do agree, April is too soon, the weather can be unpredictable (cold or warm, you never know.) |

Right now I am just jotting down ideas and dates , I will later check the busy Manx club schedule and the very busy schedule of Bruce and Winnie, to make sure they can be here. So the date is still open
The reason I will use Buffalo as the main host hub is that I own a business here in the restaurant and bar business and know many people in the hotel and Hospitality field to help cater our members , and I also have a special idea planed at the Naval park to have a honor celebration ceremony for Bruce on SS Sullivan's ship if all plans can be made.
Again all of this is in the very early stage of planning but feel free to add some ideas.
The one problem we may have; is some people will not have passports to enter into Canada so that is my reason for staying on the US side but we could possibly make it an option or choice

I would be willing to go. My only issue is I dont have a Pass port or enhanced drivers license(Not too big a deal, Ive been meaning to get one). But the real issue for me with Cross Boarder is I have to jump through hoops to leave the country based on my job. Thay wont keep me from going to any US events, but Canada might be a little harder to make. With that aside, looks like its time to start planning 2015. |

Yes that is my original idea is, too have all of the events on the USA side ,with an option of the Niagara Falls trip: to go and check it out either side if you want too.
I will put a memo out to members about bringing a passport or an enhanced driver license , though I believe we only have them in New York state. |

Good idea! I like June or July. I know how cold it can be, I used to live in NY. I say USED to. Too damn cold. It would be cool to join up with the buggy group, maybe make some converts of them. I do have a passport and for those who don't have one, it is no big deal to get. My wife has one and has never been out of the country, since she has gotten it. I bet it would be easy to get Vincent and France there. As long as it didn't interrupt with Big Bear. _________________ I'd rather be an hour early than 5 minutes late. (Mine)

Marc, Sounds like a great plan. Whenever I visit Niagara Falls I also make a point of visiting the Dearborn Museum

Marc, I would love to come up to Buffalo for a Buggy event, sanctioned or not. If you're willing to commit to the time and effort involved in the planning and execution of an event, plan it and buggy's will come.
Average high/low temp in Buffalo:
April 55/37
May 67/47
June 75/57
July 80/62
Let us know when, either way its still short and sandals. And maybe a coat.

Count me in, AND, I'll bring a buggy with me. The absolute best part will be getting to hang out at the Frizzardking's drinking establishment! |

I have been working with a friend who works with the owners of the Holliday Inn Buffalo Downtown Hotel , and they have blocked two floors off, for us; for any one is interested in a room , they have given us a rate of a $119.00 a night, it is reserved under the Manx Club . Nice remodeled hotel , outdoor pool.
This will be the Manx club home base
Hotel is located in the heart of downtown Buffalo .
And is right across the street from the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site

Yes, to participate in an "Official Manx Club Event" you must be a member, this is due mainly to event insurance which is required for an organized event.
No you do not need to own a "Meyers Manx" buggy to join the club, we have a vast variety of buggy types, you just have to have the desire to have fun and enjoy "street legal" dune buggies.
Mark- are there provisions at the hotel for tow vehicle/trailer parking? |
