Hi guys,
This really isn't my area of expertise so I apologize in advance; my world is pretty much grounded in VW type 1s. A buddy of mine is getting rid of what I believe is a 914 engine. The engine ran last a year ago and is not seized (I turned it by hand today). It is supposedly from a '72 914. The transmission is with it. Just wanted to flash a couple pics and find out if there is any demand for this type of engine. I know some guys like to get them for VW conversions and such so here are a few pics. I appreciate any comments.

A '72 would be a 1.7L Type 4 engine and the 5 speed transaxle would be what's called a tail shifter. Both (with work) can be used in a T1 bug or kit car. The T4 has a strong bottom end and is stock around 76 hp and just a little heaver than a T1 engine. Parts are more costly though. Sitting for awhile and not running they would be considered cores so total value $300-500. A later 2L with side shifter would bring more resale value. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |
