Can anyone provide more info on the camping situation? I am trying to convince the wife to make this our first camping trip (along with our 5 and 2 year old girls). Beside on site, there looks to be Fla-Net Park nearby. Does anyone recommend either for us? We don't have a van so will need to rough it in a tent. |

Plenty of space my friend. The last couple of years I drove my ford escape and slept in a tent. There are bathrooms near the camping area, and there is also a restaurant / bar serving food and drinks all day Saturday and Sunday . Live music Saturday evening. |

Definitely come down Jettaway...
The "campground" is a German sports club (country club) it's back from the street quite a ways, and there are TONS of kids. Your kids will have a blast, make friends and be off on the playground or running around.
You don't need a bus, the tent is perfect. Your wife need not worry about cooking, there are clean bathrooms and tons to do.
See you there! _________________ Mike

I tent camped a few times and it was great. In all honesty, if you don't camp you end up missing out on a lot of the fun of the weekend. Plus, you'll already be there when you wake up on Sunday morning so you can just roll out of your sleeping bag and walk up to the clubhouse for a little breakfast and coffee before the cars start filling out the show field. _________________ www.cjvws.com

Ain't it the truth ~
Camping out is half the fun at the Gathering.
Take SeanSOfTheDead up on his offer...roll up on Saturday and CAMP OUT !!!
You will witness no other VW show anywhere with this kind of camp-out action, partying, and camaraderie.
I've been to enough VW shows over the years to know.
( and yes, your offspring will have a blast ! )
Oh, and MIKE...
As far as this valve cover racing goes,
Grudge match between that T4 loser you put together and ME with the last two year's reigning champ on Bucky's raceway before the actual comp...if you can handle the challenge.
No witnesses...no trophies...no bull. Not even whoever winds up being you're Saturday night Snuggie to egg you on OK ?
Just me, you, and Bucky's track.
Since there's no guarantee the two of us will wind up head to head with each other in competition on Sunday, I think we owe it to ourselves to run, at the very least, the best outta one ( or even three ) with each other beforehand.
Just for bragging rights, if nothing else
Winner gets to face Manny's well dressed entry this year ?
Just a thought
Manny ?
You down ??? _________________ Drive your VW... That's what it was made for.

I don't usually set up the track till Sunday morning to keep the a.m. dew from warping the surface. That being said, if you guys want to duke it out on Sunday I'll make sure it's set up early. _________________ www.cjvws.com

Regarding the last communications about the valve cover racing...
This will be our first chance to attend Flanders and we are very interested in enjoying ALL the activities--camping, making new friends, meeting fellow Samba members, and THE racing. We are putting our racer together, first time ever with no knowledge of what makes a good racer, but we are trying. We read the rules, understanding them to make it fair for all.
If the track is used prior to the race for some, does this allow an unfair advantage because they saw how theirs ran? Does this mean they will turn theirs in early and not touch them or modify them after the "off record" match? Or, will everybody get a practice run and then be able to make a modification?
We were going to be the "sleeper", but now you all know a newcomer will be in town, and, on a good natured level, I think ours will win! |

Yeah, since you're new... We'll cut you some slack.
Those of us "harasssing" one and other, are just twisted individuals who get off on provoking friends.
I put way more time into this silly racer than it is worth - and spent twice that time spewing $41T with my mouth just because these guys are friends who would do the same to me.
None of us actually care who wins and the race is really not set up for a tournament style win. It's meant to promote camaraderie and build on the attraction of the AACG.
Frankly, usually the kids spend all day playing with the track just the same.
Besides, I ran my car last year - I'm pretty familiar wit how it will perform. _________________ Mike

Me ? Hungover ??
I can't imagine...
I believe Bucky said SUNDAY morning Mike.
( and I'm the one you indicate likes to dive into the firewater ? )
Sunday morning is all about the swap meet for me Mike...but we will get together and run each other at some point.
E&M Ghia,
The valve cover racing is really all about the fun of it. I'm sure you can test run your racer and make adjustments all day if the track it set up.
Mike, Manny, and me just love to bench-race before hand. _________________ Drive your VW... That's what it was made for.

E&M Ghia,
We set up the track on Sunday morning to give anyone who wants a chance to test and adjust their racers an opportunity to do so, so it will be there if you'd like to take some test runs. I'm glad to hear you plan to take advantage of the events and full weekend, you won't regret it! _________________ www.cjvws.com

Sorry Mike, I fat fingered the keyboard... I meant Sunday! LOL
Any ruling on the fabricator of a car having to be present at the events to place, or can builders send cars to run in their absence? _________________ Mike

automatic DQ, it's in the big book of rules, who would build one of these things and have someone else bring it anyway? |

I understand the banter...
Thank you for the clarification...I did not know about the ability to test run....Wasn't in the official "Big Book " rules. Now, my 8 year old son can adjust the alignment of the car...
Given its high rate of speed, we don't want it to go into the peanut gallery and knock someone out.
