|
|
Hi Fellow Samba Peeps,
Did some searching and I need some advice. I have a 1966 bus that I want to purchase a complete dual carb, 1900+cc engine for. I have heard conflicting reports. Have you purchased a complete engine and what was the service like?
Here is one with a warranty:

Bergmann is an option but I heard a few say service is lacking, engine showed without oil pressure and it was a hassle to resolve.

Here is another one too..

I am looking for advice here, I have never purchased a complete engine to slide into my bus (transmission is being redone with Freeway Flyer).
thanks All!

I wouldn't buy any of those two of them have had some pretty bad feedback in the past and I doubt they have improved since
since you are in Bellingham there is a good engine builder close to you that would probably cost the same but have no shipping involved and would be easier to do any repairs if something does happen which odds are it will
his name is nate and his shop is provolks it's on hwy 20 by the casino
or there are other locals builders in Snohomish, Seattle, Olympia that would be better then ordering something and having to pay shipping _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

Hi Joe,
I have been working with Nate at Provolks. He is awesome and he said I could either have him build an engine or I could source one and he would install, it when he works on the transmission and other items. I appreciate the input, plan to use nate for all my mechanical needs. I am not a very good mechanical guy.. _________________ Link to 1966 Samba Build

I agree!!! Roy took FIVE months for a line bore that was wrong! On top of it, I didn't even get my case back! It is correct now (after paying a REAL shop again)

Roy is a nice guy and helpful, in my experience, but I cannot speak for his engine builds, as I build my own. |

If you're in Washington and want a turnkey... "Northwest Connecting Rod" is a fantastic option. Jerry is a really stand up guy and does fantastic work.
He's been around since back in the day and is one of the few left that stands on his name and his work. I can't speak highly enough of my experience with him.
Additionally, if it goes wrong, you want a shop you can drive to. What happens if one of those crate engines goes sideways?
His shop is also pretty amazing. Worth a stop just to see it. |

Haha, I was thinking the same thing.
the fact that it's rebuilt and fairly priced is nice, but it does seem dressed up to sell. Personally I really dislike chrome. Eh. |

I might look good in a dune buggy but not a bus. |
