Haha, I was thinking the same thing.
the fact that it's rebuilt and fairly priced is nice, but it does seem dressed up to sell. Personally I really dislike chrome. Eh. |
At a show last weekend, the bug and dune buggy crowd loved the chrome and color. |

If you're in Washington and want a turnkey... "Northwest Connecting Rod" is a fantastic option. Jerry is a really stand up guy and does fantastic work.
He's been around since back in the day and is one of the few left that stands on his name and his work. I can't speak highly enough of my experience with him.
Additionally, if it goes wrong, you want a shop you can drive to. What happens if one of those crate engines goes sideways?
His shop is also pretty amazing. Worth a stop just to see it. |
I don't have any personal experience with him, but I have heard nothing but good things. Since my local builder is stepping out of the business, ( ) I will definitely consider using him in the future for projects that I don't have the time/experience to handle. _________________ nothing |

Good choice and you will have an engine that will last you for quite a while. |

You shouldn't be disappointed.
He warranted my engine for one year from the date of installation. So you can get actual driving miles on it. I was midway though the bus so it worked great. Just call him X months later and say "it's in" and the warrantee starts then. Total honor system kind of deal.
He actually let me bring the short block (he put together) back to his shop and I assembled it there. He would come over periodically and gave me pointers. Who does that these days? THATS the type of service you want.

jerry has been kinda hit or miss in my experiences with him but I have only used his machinist services before
seems like over the 12 years I have know of his shop he goes thru periods of great work with periods of ok or crappy work in between them _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

I wouldn't buy any of those two of them have had some pretty bad feedback in the past and I doubt they have improved since
since you are in Bellingham there is a good engine builder close to you that would probably cost the same but have no shipping involved and would be easier to do any repairs if something does happen which odds are it will
his name is nate and his shop is provolks it's on hwy 20 by the casino
or there are other locals builders in Snohomish, Seattle, Olympia that would be better then ordering something and having to pay shipping |
And you base that off what specifically? That's I've personally built more engines in the last 25 years than any other single person on this website? That's I've been building since I was 12 years old? Maybe learn something before bashing a company online. You read some bullshit reviews from over a decade ago concerning people that haven't worked here in years and you think you know something about my company?
I have no problem with people giving reviews of my company but if you are going to, please have firsthand specific knowledge. _________________ Please "LIKE" us on facebook to see what we are working on.

Because you included me in "I doubt they have improved since" and I take everything said about my company very seriously. People come here to get actual useful advice, not "heresay from someone who told someone who heard from another guy whose sister was married to a guy who bought something from Mofoco in 1992 and it was garbage so never buy from those guys." 99% of every bad thing ever said about us is completely unfounded. Has this company made mistakes in it's 43 year history? Of course it has. Have I busted my ass to do everything humanly possible to rectify every situation, even if it occured 10 years ago? Yes I have. Try read ALL the feedback and then come back to talk. Most of the time I find the loudest people know the least and would never say what they say on the internet to my face. Again, if you have actual experience, print it. I'm not scared. I sleep well after working 60+ hours a week. I will defend my company until the day I die and if you think that's a bad thing, I wouldn't want you as a customer anyway. _________________ Please "LIKE" us on facebook to see what we are working on.

No i don't with your company i had a problem with your attitude in the first post you qutoed me in
Mostly since all i was saying was to check these company feedback cause i remeber there being issues in the past
You should have stayed focused on the other guy who was actaully bashing you and not the one giving out non-bias replys _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

I highlighted the portion of his post that said, "I wouldn't buy any of those two of them have had some pretty bad feedback in the past and I doubt they have improved since."
Since he didn't specify which companies or cite any specific information to back up his claims, I asked, "And you base that off what specifically?"
I'm not english major but I'm pretty sure that's another way to say, 'What is your specific problem with my company?"
If he had no problem, an intelligent response would have been, "Hey Roy, I was talking about the other two."
That would have cleared up any miscommunication and the subject would be closed. Since he didn't do that, he obviously has some problem and nothing to back it up so I am calling BS. Now you want to sound like a smart guy and call me out about a question? _________________ Please "LIKE" us on facebook to see what we are working on.

Being that you are in Washington, I would give Dennis at Strictly Speed a call. Super nice guy. Reasonably priced. Builds stuff to be tough. He's been building VW motors and trannies since 1969. Tell him what you want the bus to do and he will build a motor that does it. He built a 1914 and 68 tranny for me. Dennis is near Bremerton. 360 307 9095.
PM me or email me if you want _________________ Eating through a straw sucks. Wear your helmet. |
