Yess! I got the front end out finally  It still looks strait but I will put a square on it before I start.
Also the adjusters showed up today. I still trying to figure out if I am going to modify them so the nut is on the bottom instead of the inside. If I did that I would prob extend the the sides and slot the top more so I would have more adjustment. The plans are to use the adjusters with the monroe air shocks untill or if I need the thru rods. I am going to say about a week to get this done so I don't have to rush.
Does anyone know the clearance needed between the towers to clear? Mine is kinda smashed up. If I ever want to use this on another car I want to make sure it clears with out any pounding to be done.  Let the fun begin

Spent about 20 min bending smashing and hitting the front apron. It latches and locks. On a side note went to woodburn bug show it was a good time. Figured after seeing all the dubs and talking to a few people going 4" beam. I have started cutting off the brackets for the pan head, very slow. I am at 45 min and its still on.  I should have the beam done this week and hope to bolt it up next week.

I finally stayed after work to finish up the beam thus far. It was taking to long nibbling at it. Tomorrow will start on the rest.
I tried to fit the beam in I knew it would not fit because of the towers. I think for this one I will make the dub fit around the beam. If I fix the front end down the road I will deal with changing the beam later. I won't have to take the whole thing apart to do that. So I added on to the adjusters and notched the slots .5 inches. The only reason I did this is because I am going air shocks down the road. I will prob be running static for a while and if I put dropped spindles on then I want to be able to adjust it up more.
Whats left?
move zerk fitting
Final inside cleaning (make sure I get all the crap out, for the 3rd time)
Shock stabilizer bracket
Steering stop bracket (Don't know if I am going to put that on)
Dimple and cut leaf springs

Well the bad news That zerk fitting I moved, it hit the steering box. So I had to take it out. At this point I need to get the bug out of the garage and moving. I will have to move it 2" or so to the right side of the steering box. If the bearing is not in the way. Live and learn I guess. I have been out of the loop for long time so I will know next time, If there is a next time.
So I did 3 inner splines on the back and I have 165s. The front is the 4" narrowed beam with NO dropped spindles. right now the tires are hitting the head light buckets. Don't know what I am going to do cut them or find some small tires. I will prob cut them because the fenders are hosed anyways and they are pushed back a little.
So going to hunt some cheap tires down if I can find any.

This is the first fit up and they looked just as I thought they would.
Side shot the rims are even with the end of the fender. I might have to roll them a little so I don't get any tire rub. I don't know what size I am going to run yet. The 145/65 are out as they are only suppose to go on 5.5 rims and these are 6 wide.
There is plenty of room under and back side of the rims
I had to see what the white looks like.. not sure yet.
I took a pic of this just for ref in the future for anyone else looking for info on these as I could not find much. Tried to get it to focus but no luck.

You are going to want to pick up some dropped spindles. Three reasons why:
1. Your ball joints are going to bind and limit or negate your suspension travel.
2. They will move the wheel back in the fender well and reduce or eliminate rubbing on the headlight buckets.
3. They are only $99. |

I like the part they are only $99. This is a tight budget build it took some time to get the funds for the spindles. I was old school back in the day with no drp spindles.. But I am old now and like the softer ride. I love the reasons and appreciate the info and support. Now if you can give me some ideas of what tires to run that would be great. I am thinking 175/55 front and 205/55 rear but I Don't know if those will fit.
Now for the stripping of the wheels.. I looked and looked. This stuff is pretty good.

Now soon as I sprayed this on it was like popcorn cooking.
Then it was just falling off, This stuff is great!
Few minutes later and its pretty clean, I think about 15 min or so to just clean it up.
Back side..
and mostly clean need to do the inside rim. They had this stuff on sale for $6 so prob be into it about $18 after I am done. This is way better than the jell stuff. I used a stainless steel brush to clean the small stuff still need to hit few spots. Over the next week I will finish these up and pressure wash them off before they head into powder coating.
One more thing, careful this stuff will burn you

Actually, the spindles are $109.95. Still pretty cheap and an absolute necessity, if you ask me. Some people will say that cast spindles are weak and inferior to forged ones but I have run these exact spindles on two cars and a set of cast link pin dropped spindles on my current bug. I've never had a problem.

As for tires, 135/15's are good for the taller look. They fill the fenders better than lower profile tires and they cleared the headlight buckets on my '68 with 4" beam and drop spindles. They look good paired with 165/15's in the rear.
I've also run (and currently have) 155/60/15 up front. They look good with a 195/65/15 in the rear (which is pretty close in diameter to the stock 165's). Kumho sells the 155/60 smart car tire but they wear out pretty quickly. I have Continental 155/60's right now and they've held up much better and were only about $30 more for the pair.

$70 each and free shipping. They had good tread life, as well. |

P.S. I love the look of your car. If it were mine, I'd pull the front end as straight as possible and roll it, as is.
My old '68 with 155/60/15 in front and 195/65/15 in the rear.

Not sure I like them yet and this is the last wheel to be cleaned up. This is still the old paint and rattle can job, not powder coated yet. I just wanted to see what is going to look like with the cap on it. I think I will powder coat the lugs for now to get me by.

I like the side shot, hope the tires fill it out.
Got some lip action going on but not much. I am going to try and run at 3 inner clicks.
This is what I am thinking ,155/65s front maybe 195/60s in the rear. If I do the 195s I could run 2 clicks in the back and that would solve some problems I will have to deal with. These are 6" x 15". You guys have any tire suggestions?

Well its been a while since I posted. I finally got the wheels stripped all the way down. Here is the main shot of the rim for other purposes 
Here are the bunch...
I pulled the bug out to get some good shots so I can p shop some dif colors on the car. I have to make up my mind by wed, that is when they are getting powered coated.
This one is ok but I thought I would post it anyways
If any of you feel so inclined to do a photo shop of this with the rims on it that would be great. I am having a hard time making up my mind. 
The three main colors I am playing with are green, black and white not in any particular order. I am only going to do a two tone color.

Well this is what I am going for.
Not that low but close. 
The wheels did not come out that good. They have powder coating issues that I will have to deal with before they go on. This also is the best out of them too.  Either way it is what it is and its time to focus on other things till I can get some tires.
If anyone is following this thread, what do you think?

| im kinda liken it with the rusty stockers.Did they powder coat those in two colors?I guess its difficult to get a nice clean line betrween the two colors.They just look too clean and shiny on a ratty car.Maybe rub some mud on em.When you gonna get that car back on the road? |
