very neat.
agree on the second bolt hole, all it would take would be to drill one. those brackets are perfect. |

Great thread! I ordered my 911 sport mounts today.
I noticed something unusual on my '69 Fasty. From what I've read, the rear-most engine mount (closest to the trunk latch) ceased to be used after '68. (Correct?) My '69 still has the vacant mounting plate. Is that just residual from an early body panel stamping or should I try getting a rear mount and installing it? |

It's more of a stabilizing piece than a proper mount. The early cars are swing axle and the engine is supported mostly by the swing axle subframe. Your car is IRS and doesn't have the support from the bottom (using the side mounts and rear hanger).

More is not better here- the IRS mounts plus the swing axle stabilizer will fight each other. The IRS mount is a far superior design anyhow- it's all the stability you need. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Yup, that's why VW used anti-vibration nuts on the bolts. If you really think about it, the bracket bolts to the end of the hanger bar, which is bolted to the engine. Vibration from the engine and flexing of the mount can cause the nut to back off, and the bolt to vibrate out. Having the 2nd bolt in place is added insurance against the engine falling onto the pavement. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I sacrificed the lower brackets off of the old mounts:
Drilled holes for plug-welding a rod thru the middle.
A pass through to ream and de-burr.
Tacked into the mounts, lightly, to keep from melting the rubber.
Grind a bevel to weld the washers on.
Go really, really slow to avoid melting rubber.
Smooth.
And underneath.
I messed up and didn't get the washers on first.
Had to split them to get them on, then weld back together.

JJM86 I know it’s been a few years but I wondered how things worked out with your Porsche engine mount mod for your Type 3? I’m experiencing some vibration from my automatic transmission and figured one of the solutions would be to replace the tired engine mounts. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks man! |
