The last 3 weeks have been hell on the hands. I have stripped the interior down and put POR15 on everything I can see. I have to still get the clear coat on the dash and then I can start putting things back ON the car. Had a real problem getting the new clutch cable back in. The clutch tube was packed with old dried up grease. The solution was to use a hammer and drive a 6' long 1/4" threaded rod in from the rear and use it like a pipe cleaner.
I rebuilt the clutch pedal assembly using the Bigfoot extender shaft and love the way it went together. I ran a 3/4" plastic wire conduit down my right heater tunnel for wiring. Cleaned up the rear end getting ready to install my oil cooler back there. Here is a link to the POR15 shot:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7F9-XEyrYg&feature=youtu.be and some photos of the prep work:

Coming along nicely. Who is the manufacture of the felt back sound deadening material? |

Thanks for sharing your experience!
I'm very curious about going the same route some day. I'm thinking if the engine in mine gets to a point where it needs a serious overhaul/replacement I may just go all electric.
I have a lot of nostalgia for the flat 4 sound/smell/tweaking but the idea of eliminating a ton of the complexity and maintenance that goes with internal combustion engine is alluring. _________________ '72 Ghia Coupe

Sounds like there may be a market for an air cooled VW engine sound module that could be fitted to the electric propulsion system. |

Will you be shifting gears? If so, what type of gearing are you using in the transmission? |

You really don't need to shift gears, that is to keep engine rpm down (gasoline that is) The last guy I saw do this just left it in second, (maybe even third)it has enough torque to get it going and would roll up to 65 mph no problem. When he needed reverse you just came to a stop and shifted in. It worked quite nice. Looking great by the way, I would like a copy of the Curtis software given that I work with them every day, but Raymond will not release any to us. Lol |
